The Charlotte Jewish News -November 2014 - Page 5 Bernstein Leadership Group; Shaping Chariotte’s Next Generation of Young Leaders By Don and Bobbi Bern stein When a “young leader ship program” was first proposed 18 years ago at a Federation board meeting, we were inspired and ex- eited at the prospeet of funding it. We believed that identifying and edu- eating young leaders was not only in the best inter est of our Jewish Commu nity, but it gave us a perfeet avenue to replaee ourselves. It has been a speetaeular sueeess due to the vi sion and hard work of both the professionals and lay people who have been involved. It has edu- eated, inspired, and motivated hundreds of young adults in our eommunity. It has fostered eom- mitment to Jewish values, lasting friendships, and awareness of leadership opportunities. It has fulfilled its promise, as graduates of the Bernstein Leadership Pro gram are, today, in leadership po sitions throughout the Jewish eommunity and beyond. We eouldn’t be more proud. In reeent years, our foeus has been on perpetuating our eharita- ble giving through endowments. Bernstein Leadership has been sueh a sueeessful eomponent of our Jewish Community and so sat isfying personally, that we wanted to make sure it would eontinue even when we’re gone. Young leaders are our future and to have had a part in shaping their values is a legaey for whieh we are most grateful and proud. Our hope is that others will be inspired to leave a legaey gift to their pro gram or institution of ehoiee. It will make a real differenee for fu ture generations.
