REMODELED FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT!
MUSIC
With DOUG NEEMS
Doug Neems, deejay at The Scorpio,
holds a journalism degree from the Uni
versity of North Carolina.
As the winter chill envelopes the
Southeast and outdoor activities are
curbed, many people lind it ditticult to
maintain a fitness regimen.
If you fit the description and find your
sedentary hours on the rise, remember
the aerobic benefit of dancing. You can
shed not only those holiday calories, but
the seasonal doldrums as well. Head for
your favorite club and sweat it out!
Now for some motivation:
High Energy Scoicheis
Linda's "Fire," Stacey Q's "We Con
nect," and "Boys" by Leah Landis pace
this month's power pack. Hot newcom
ers include Nick John's "Planet Nine,"
"Soul" from Jolo, and Sabby's "Friday
Night." Imports abound. Showing partic
ular club promise are Kinky Go's "I'm A
Winner," Man 2 Man's "Who Knows
What Evil Lurks," Viola Wills and Noel
McCalla's "Take One Step Forward"
and "Smile" by Why Not. Well worth
checking out is the silky smooth remake
of "Our Day Will Come," deftly per
formed by Holly Oas.
Midnight Sunrise gives us a British
interpretation of the Chicago "house
music" phenomenon in "On the House."
For those unaware, "house" fuses high
energy with urban influences to create
some of the liveliest party music ever
recorded. Keep your ears open; the
"Chicago sound" is spreading swiftly.
Among the current crop of lower
tempo releases. Cat Miller's tremen
dously campy "Beat My Face," Banan-
arama's "Trick of the Night" and KTP's
"Never Too Late" are standouts.
Extiaoidinary/Exotic
Those with a taste for the unusual may
enjoy Wazmo's "Yahoo Eeeee." Call it
"cowpoke disco" even Dale Evans
could love; the perfect record for dis
turbing your neighbors. .Also, coming
soon from Razormaid records will be a
series of commercially available 12-
inchers catering to those who appreci
ate originality. Connoisseurs of Top 40
can anxiously await the release of Ma
donna's greatest hits, all newly remixed,
titled "You Can Dance."
Happy New Year! And party safe!
