Continued from page 4 But send them to the people you have lost touch with first. Hug someone. Tell someone, "I love you." Bring a present home for no reason at all. The list can gobn. But it lacks one impor tant ingredient. Something for yourself. Though you will see that you will have these and all kindnesses returned to you over and over again. But on the more immediate side, do something special for yourself. Make a list of all the positive things that have happened to you in the last month, week, day. Write them down, read them, memorize them. Refuse all negative thoughts for 24 hours. Refuse to associate with any negative people for a day. (If you can't escape them completely, don't take part in their negative thoughts, talk or actions.) Smile. Grin foolishly at everyone you meet the next time you go out. It is absolutely the most contagious infection around. It yield a mystique that few people can resist. It is the number one way to catch a new friend. Decide to go someplace alone to shop or eat. Buy yourself a present. Take the one thing you worry about the most and complete it. Put it away and get on with living. The only life you have is taking place right now. As you read this paper, you are in the process of living. It doesn't exist anywhere else, not a second ago nor a mo ment in the future. Lennon and McCaHney once wrote, "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." Mere words can help us adapt when bad things happen to good people and when good things seem to happen to persons we see as bad. One day, who knows, you may even like yourself as much as others do! And as for the holidays... if you are unhappy alone, then choose to be with a friend, go to church. Take control of your Christmas Present and choose happiness and wellness. Have a safe and joyous holiday season!
