There is a new social group for “Bears”
throughout the Carolinas now in the forma
tion stage called Carolina Bear Lodge. An
organizational meeting was held on January
22 in Charlotte, and their first official meet
ing will be held on Satinday, February 12,

Metrolina AIDS Project (MAP) will con
duct a volunteer training session on March 1,
buddy training on March 10 and 12, and
Speaker’s Bureau training on March 16.

The Charlotte Chapter of Parents and
Friends of Lesbians and Gays (P-FLAG)
recently named their scholarship fund The
Nila and Stokley Bailey-Parents Flag Schol
arship Fund. The fund was named after the
Baileys, who cofounded the local chapter, in
recognition for all they have done on behalf
of the gay commxmity over the past 25 years.
The $1000 college scholarships are available
to gay/lesbian/bisexual youth in Mecklenburg
and surroimding counties. Interested stu
dents should apply by April 26, 1994, and
applications are available at White Rabbit

The Raleigh Religious Network for Gay
& Lesbian Equality has aimounced their 7th
annual conference to be held on March 4 and
5 at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, Ra
leigh. The keynote speaker will be Reverend
Sandra Robinson, President of Samaritan
College, the Professional School of the Uni
versal Fellowship of Metropolitan Commu
nity Churches. Cost of the conference is $25

Due to inclement weather. North Carolina
Pride 1994 postponed their scheduled com-
mimity dinner in Charlotte to Friday, Febru
ary 18. The potluckdiimer will begin at 7:00
p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Prov
idence Road, Charlotte. Beverages and uten
sils will be provided. Beach Bingo will be
played from 8:30 to 10:00 p.m. with cash and
prizes awarded per game. Each game will
cost $ 1.00, and monies raised will be used to

ONE VOICE, Charlotte’s gay and lesbian
mixed chorus, will hold a memorial perfor
mance called “Remembrance” on Saturday,
March 26, 8:00 p.m., at Myers Park Baptist
Church. Through music and meditation,
ONE VOICE invites all to join them in
remembering fiiends and loved ones who
have passed through our lives. A special
effort was made to choose music written by
gay and gay-affirmative composers. Joining
ONE VOICE will be members of the Char
lotte Symphony, and the performance is free
of charge.
The Charlotte Business Guild is a rela
tively new group (just over a year old) which
provides members a method of professional
and business networking. The group meets
the third Monday of each month for cocktails
and hors d’oeuvres or dinner, the place cho
sen to provide privacy. The group does not
actively participate in political activism or
fundraising, and the membership ranges from
corporate attomies to real estate brokers to
sales persons. The Guild’s mission is to
provide a professional atmosphere for busi
ness and professional networking for gays
