PAGE 30 Q-Notes March 1994 Compiled by Dan Van Mourik Q-Notes Staff The Gay & Lesbian Switchboard of Char lotte is offering re-certification training for any former Switchboard volimteers who are interested in returning to active status. The session will be held on Saturday, March 26. The Switchboard is expecting an increased demand for information since NC Pride ’94 will be held in Charlotte this year. Anyone wishing to register for the re-certification session should call the Switchboard at (704) 535-6277 between 6:30 and 10:30 p.m. any evening. A training session for new volim- teers had not been scheduled at press time. A prayer, healing and meditation circle for HIV/AIDS will be held at the Dancing Moon Bookstore in downtown Boone, NC on Sunday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. The gathering is open to people of all faiths. The meetings will be held the third Satinday of each month (except Octo ber when it will be the fourth Saturday) at a supportive restaurant in Charlotte. To celebrate International Women’s Day, WOW will host a spaghetti dinner and fundraiser on Saturday, March 12, in Char lotte. The diimer begins at 7:00 p.m. and is open to all women, children and men. The cost is S5 in advance, $7 at the door, and will provide funds for WOW’s operating expens es and newsletter. The Fund for Southern Coimmmities (FSC) has established the Southern Outlook Fimd to support organizations and projects which combat homophobia and address emerging issues in the gay and lesbian com munity. Groups in North Carolma, South Carohna and Georgia who are denied access to traditional funding sources because they are small, new or controversial are welcome to apply for grants. The Joyce Mertz Gilmore Foundation in New York City has given a $25,000 matching grant to FSC to grant to southern region organizmg projects on gay and lesbian issues. National Pageantry Systems has an noimced a special hotel room rate for the Miss Gay National Pageant to be held March 18-20 in Atlanta, GA. All rooms at the Colony Square Hotel (from single to quadru ple) will be offered at $87.00 per night. The rates will also apply to dates surrounding the actual pageant dates. Charlotte ’ s Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Trans- gender Information Exchmige has changed its meeting schedule to quarterly (Janu^, April, July and October). After the success of Comedy Central’s “Out There” (The Comedy Channel’s high est rated program EVER), they’re going to do it again. “Out There II” will be taped before a live audience in New York City during Gay Games IV, Gay Pride Weekend and Stonewall 25. The all-gay and lesbian comedy special does not yet have a specific air date. If you’re going to be in the San Francisco area, you may want to check out the gay- friendly communities along California’s Russian River. Already popular during the summer, winter activities include whale watching from a tour boat out of Bodega Bay, golf, hiking, canoeing, beach-combing and horseback riding requiring only a light jacket or sweater. Located in the heart of the wine country, the area offers a dozen or so gay resorts and bed-and-breakfasts, many bars and places to dance and meet others, and countless gay shops and services.
