Compiled by Dan Van Mourik Q-Notes Staff The Fourth Annual Down East Pride Fes- will be held Sep- tember 18-20 in Greenville, NC. This year’s theme is “Our Down East Community, Our Down East PRIDE!” The Outdoor Festival on the Greenville Town Common will be held on Sat urday, September 19 from l:00-5:00pm. The Band Shell will host speakers and performers for the festival, while vendors line the surround ing walkways. This year, plans call for more participatory events, such as a dunking booth, volleyball games and other sporting events. Ap pearing on Saturday will be Red Letter Day (a lesbian musical duo from Maryland), Magd^en Hsu-Li (a pioneer among Asian-American women in music), the Triangle Gay Men’s Cho rus and Sue Witty (a singer specializing in pop/ folk music). After the Outdoor Festival, a Com munity Meet-and-Greet will bc-held from 6:00- 8:00pm in a relaxed environment with light re freshments at a location to be announced. This reception is free and open to all. The Fourth Annual Pride Dance will be held at the Pad- dock Club from 10:00pm until whenever. A portion of the door proceeds and possibly more will go to Down East Pride to help pay for the festival. An Ecumenical Service will be held at 10:30am Sunday morning with the location to be announced. Also on Sunday, a Pride Brunch will be held at noon at the Emerald City Grill. Tickets are $5 in advance only. The official host hotel for this year’s Festival is the East Carolina Inn, 2095 Stantonsburg Road, Greenville. Rates for the festival are $40 per night for singles (one queen-size bed) and $48 per night for doubles (two full-size beds). An additional discount of $5 per night is available to members of AAA, AARP and the military. Accommodations also include a complimentary continental breakfast. One Voice Chorus, Charlotte’s gay, lesbian and gay-affirming chorus, began rehearsals on August 31 for their upcoming season of three major concerts and numerous smaller appear ances. Some carry a nominal fee, but many are free. Some of the upcoming groups include “Feminist Reading and Discussion,” “Bisexual Women’s Group,” “Building Healthy Bound aries in Lesbian Relationships” and “Lesbian Health Reading Group.” There are a host of other offerings not lesbian/bi specific that would also be of interest.
