The AIDS Council of Gaston County, NC
has completed revision of the community re
source directory, Help For People With HIV &
AIDS, a listing of resources for service provid
ers, caregivers and people living with HIV in
Gaston County. The book highlights where to
find medical treatment, dental treatment, case
management services, social security benefits,
help with emergency needs and information on
HIV/AIDS related web sites. Anyone with HIV
or any person directly involved with HIV/AIDS
care, can request a free copy by calling Pam
Robinson or Dianne Panella at (704) 853-5105.
Palmetto AIDS Life Support and Services
(PALSS) in Columbia, SC will hold their Red
Ribbon Rummage Sale on Saturday, Septem
ber 26 from 7:30am to 12:30pm in their back
parking lot (Hampton & Cherokee Streets).
They also need donations of such items as lin
ens, tableware, baby items, household accesso
ries, collectibles, tapes & CDs, furniture and
anything else appropriate to be sold at the sale.
They do not need clothes or books. Items may
be dropped off at PALSS, 1924 Taylor St., Co
lumbia, Monday - Friday between 9:00am and

The Charlotte True Buddha Society is host
ing a weekend of Buddhist events September
26-28. On Saturday, a meditation retreat will
be led by two masters from the True Buddha
School of Seattle, WA from 9:30am to 6:00pm
at the Piedmont Unitarian Universalist Church,
9704 Mallard Creek Rd., Charlotte. On Sun
day, there will be a Blessing & Bardo Deliver
ance Ceremony at the True Buddha Temple,
1601 East 4th St., at 2:00pm. On Monday, a
Dharma Talk will be presented by a Master from
the True Buddha School again at Piedmont
• Unitarian Universalist Church at 7:30pm.

MCC-Charlotte will host an informal lec
ture with Marc Adams on Sunday, Oaober 4
at 3:00pm at the church, 4037 E. Independence
Blvd., Third Floor, Charlotte. Adams is the
author of the Lambda Literary Award Finalist
book The Preacher’s Son. The book chronicles,
among other things, his attendance at and em
ployment by Jerry Falwell’s university. There will

The AIDS Benefit Foundation of South
Carolina will hold their 1998 Artists Against
AIDS benefit on Saturday, October 24 begin
ning at 7:00pm at the Carolina Coliseum in
Columbia. “Cafe CabART^: An Evening of Art
and Elegant Ambience” will be filled with caba
ret entertainment, food, drinks and artwork by
area artists which will be sold through a silent
auction with proceeds to benefit the AIDS Ben
efit Foundation. Tickets are $45 in advance
($80 per couple) or $50 individually at the door.

tarian Universalist Community in Kernersville,
NC, will hold an auction on Saturday, Octo

Common Threads, Inc. is gearing up for the
Sixth Annual AIDSWalk in Columbia, SC to
be held on March 13,1999 at 11:00am through
the streets of Columbia. The 3-mile walk be
gins at Finlay Park, proceeds to the State House
and finishes at Finlay Park for food, bands, kids’
activities and announcement of prizes for top
fundraisers. For more information or to volun

There is now a toll free, 24-hour hotline for
GLBT and questioning youth in crisis. The
Trevor Project has launched The Trevor
Helpline, the first, round-the-clock, national,
toll-free, suicide prevention hotline for gay and
questioning youth. It is open 24 hours a day,
seven days a week, 365 days a year. Teens with
nowhere to turn can call 1-800-850-8078,
where they can talk to trained counselors, find
local resources and take important steps on their
way to becoming healthy adults. All calls are
free and confidential. The Trevor Helpline is
geared toward helping those in crisis, or any
one wanting information on how to help some
one in crisis. For more information about the

The SouthEast Gay Rodeo Association is
looking to form a chapter in North Carolina
and South Carolina. The annual gay rodeo will
