Here we are again to cel ebrate the wonderful thing we call drag! I have greater ‘tea to pour this time, since pageant sea son is in full swing. Let’s begin with the most recent national pageant that took place, then we’ll cover prelims from the others! Miss National took place in Atlanta during their Pride weekend, and another sister with NC roots took the crown! Terri Vanessa Coleman, formerly of Fayetteville and now liv ing in KY, won the contest! I remember the year she and Shawnna Brooks (who crowned her) emceed the America prelim at Greeens-boro’s XTC which took Kymber Raines on to Miss NC! Now there’s a blast from the past! Terri Vanessa’s runners-up in cluded, in order, Nicole DuBois, Iowa’s Anjila Richards, Martina Diamante, and Atlanta’s Raven. Rounding out the Top 10 were Chelsea Pearl, Nazhoni, Penny Holiday, Xena, and Kendra Monroe. Here’s a big ol’ Tarheel smooch for Shawnna and Terri Vanessa! Pageant owner Chris Dunn tells me they are looking at having Miss National at Large in Orlando possibly, and it just may be the first weekend in November. Check back here for more details. The 28th Female Impersonator’s Miss Florida was held July 3rd, and Amy DeMilo finally pulled it off on her eighth (I think) at tempt! You may have seen this Beauty on a Budget on Maury Povich, or on a Miss Conti nental tape. She won every category, and I hear she was on it, including her AmY2K futuristic talent that was propped to death! Her runners- up included Valentina, Natasha Richards, Nazhoni, and a new fish to the water, Orlando’s Maya Andrews who is supposedly divine! Congrats to the outgoing Miss FL, Danielle Hunter, who is the current Miss NC Conti nental. And speaking of Continental, here are some winners of prelims — Zori Zannell won Indi ana, Chris Edwards won NY, Ray Thomas won Puerto Rico, Amalia Black won Toronto, Ali cia Markstone won Illinois, and Diva won Miss Great Lakes. Tickets are already on sale to the Labor Day weekend extravaganza, and you need to buy ’em now if you’re going! Remember the front-runner from last year that I mentioned who wouldn’t be returning? Erika Norell was first-runner-up to Tommie Ross, and was all ready to go back this year, when her career took a different turn. Erika has been signed on by the exclusive Michelle Pomier talent agency, and a show’s pilot which she filmed has gotten a nod from the network. Ap parently, she’ll be flying to LA for filming, so no pageants in Chicago for her this time. Maybe. Erika also recently filmed a special for the Spanish channel. Univision. I’ll get back with you on the airdate, ‘cause she’s lovely! The only America prelim I know about at this time is Miss Mecca, held in San Francisco, which Hollywood of DC won. I failed to men tion that NC’s Necole Summers was first-run ner-up at Gulf States America — sorry, gal! Winners of prelims leading to USofA at Large are Miss Missouri Dieta Pepsi, Kofi won Miss Louisiana, and Bridgette Lee won Miss Oklahoma. Nationals are in October, but not the same weekend as Miss America as in years past! Hooray! Two prelims that owner Nancy Newton told me about—Miss NC will be Sept. 15, and the new Miss All-States will be the 17th. While on the subject of big girls contests. Miss World at Large Tajma Hall ofRaleigh tells me she’ll relinquish her title November 5, with prelims preceding Nov. 1-4. On the local scene, Kysha Wellington recently won NC Black Entertainer of the Year; her RU was Elaine Davis. Celeste Starr re cently won Miss Scandals in Asheville, with runners- up LuAnne Landreth and Brittany Shane. Miss Pretty Patio pageant, the em ployee turnabout fundraiser at Legends in Raleigh, was won by my dear friend Robbie, known that night as a leggy, sexy Natasha Scott. Felicia Powers, Miss NC America until the end of the month, reports on two more prelims — Miss Greenville, which Ebony Summers won; her RU was Michelle Warren. Shana Nicole took her broom and swept Miss Winston-Sa lem; her RU was a new child, quite talented I hear, by the name of India Dreams. Miss NC takes place at Charlotte’s Scorpio, July 28-30. Miss Mid-Atlantic EOY at Mythos was won by Brittany Michaels; her RU was Kysha Wellington. Until next time, take a look at a web site of one of my favorite people in the world. Hot Chocolate at www.LarryEdwardsLive.com and tell him I sent you! We’ll cover more EOY pre lims next time — I’ve got a ton of ’em! ▼ Late-breaking news As this issue of Q-Notes was going to press, we learned that Miss Continental Tommie Ross was injured in an automobile accident in Texas, Ross was thrown from the back seat of a car and suffered multiple broken bones.
