There’s a new GLBT group in Charlotte.
The purpose of The Lavender Club (TLC) is
to network with other socially-conscious people
in the community and encourage philanthropy.
According to founder Michaele Harlow, “TLC
was started as a get-together for people that care
about trying to make a difference in our com
munity. I figure, we are going to get together
to eat and socialize, so why not do it for a good
cause at the same time. We will collect items
for needy organizations and promote volunteer
ing. It’s not much, but it’s better than complain
ing and waiting for someone else to do it.”
On October 14 at -7:00pm, TLC hosts
“Cocktails for a Cause” at Tutto Mundo (on
South Blvd. next to Pewter Rose) to benefit
Carolina Rainbow News (CRN). Donations of
office supplies will be collected; specific needs
include copy paper, white inkjet business cards,
HP 51645A Inkjet cartridges, as well as gift cer
tificates to local office stores.
Throughout October, TLC will sponsor a
blanket drive to benefit A Child’s Place. Drop-
offs can be made at Carribou Coffee on East
Blvd. on Wednesday nights (Amity Allies’ regu
lar gathering) or email Michaele to make other
arrangements. For more information, contact
TheLavenderClub-owner@ egroups.com.
Equality for Gays & Lesbians Everywhere
(EGALE) has set up an online guestbook for
everyone interested in recalling the late Pierre
Elliott Trudeau, former Prime Minister of
Canada. Trudeau decriminalized homosexual
ity in Canada during the late 1960s — a move
the US still hasn’t matched. The guest book can
be accessed online at www.egale.ca/cgi-bin/
guestbook. Messages will be delivered to
Trudeau’s family on October 28.
MCC-Charlotte will celebrate the work of
St. Francis of Assissi with a “Blessing of the
Animals” on Saturday, October 21 at 1:00pm.
Bring Tabby, Muffy or Ringo to the church,
1825 Eastway Drive, and enjoy the fellowship.

InCommunity OutGiving workshops in 2001.
Staff members and adjunct faculty of the Gill

a series of workshops on fundraising strategies
and board development in each InCommunity

how to raise funds for not-for-profits are in

Eleanor Sableski, the long-time director of
Durham’s Common Woman’s Chorus (CWC),
is passing the baton she’s held for 16 years. The
fall season of the chorus will be her last. Sableski
is stepping down to spend more time on other
interests. She will be missed by chorus and au
dience members alike.
The Charlotte Pride Committee is looking
for ideas and people to help organize a citywide
event — currently targeted for spring but still
in the early stages of development. If you have
suggestions or would like more information,
