on April 17 we should all be observing the “Day
of Silence?” On April 17, people who are silent
believe that laws and attitudes should be inclu
sive of people of all sexual orientations. The
Day of Silence is to draw attention to those
who have been silenced by hatred, oppression
and prejudice. Throughour the day, think about
the voices you are not hearing. What can you
do to end the silence?

Project have announced that Katia Ewald will
chair the 12th Annual Dining for Friends event
to held on Saturday June 2. Q-Notes congrarti-

been active in HIV/AIDS causes for several
years and participated in the Dining for Friends

is back and better than ever! Palmetto AIDS
Life Support Services (PALSS) will be coordi
nating the events of this year’s walk and festival
taking place on Saturday April 21 in Finlay
Park, Columbia, SC. On Friday April 20, the
activities kick-off with the “Crawl Before you
Walk” event in Five Points and the Vista. This
year’s walk will feature a route from Finlay Park
through downtown Columbia and around the
State Capitol. It culminates with food, enter
tainment and activities in Finlay Park. Prizes
will be awarded for largest team, most money
raised by an individual, most money raised by
a team and special awards for participation by
school groups and corporate teams. Support
these folks! Founded in 1985, PALSS is the old
est and largest AIDS service organization in SC.
They provide practical and emotional support
to over 750 people living with HIV/AIDS in
the Midlands in addition to health and pre
vention education information for the entire

The Carolinas have lost
one of its most active and
respected activists and arti
sans. Billie Rose, who for
the better portion of her life
championed causes when it
was not always popular,
died from a three-year battle
with cancer on March 20 at
her home.
She is survived by her
long-time companion Samis Rose, with whom
she shared almost 22 years.
