Zip: NEWS from page 19 No more Ms. Nice Queen NEW YORK, NY — The future Rosie — soon to be unencumbered by daytime talk — will be opinionated and openly, proudly gay. “I’m sick of being [expletive] nice!” she roared before a capacity crowd of 250 at Caroline’s on Broadway for a cancer fundraiser. "Fasten your seat belts — here we go!” She did riffs on Barbara Walters, Anne Heche, Tom Cruise and her own sexuality. ‘Tm a dyke!” Rosie declared at one point. And she wasn’t shy about criticizing gay activists — “gay Nazis” — who accused her of hiding her sexuality, “‘You said you liked Tom Cruise.’ I said I wanted him to mow my lawn and bring me a lemonade!” Rosie hollered. “I never said I wanted [to perform a sex act on him].” Rosie was riveting. International Queen greeted by transgender MP WELLINGTON, NZ — When Britain’s Queen Elizabeth recently arrived in New Zealand for a visit, she was greeted by New Zealand officials — among them the world’s first transgender member of parliament, Georginia Beyer who was elected about two years ago. Beyer, a former prostitute, underwent sex reassignment in 1984. She shook hands with the Queen and explained she was one of three people representing indigenous Maori people of New Zea. “I thought the Queen looked remarkably well and it was really a privilege to meet her and welcome her to New Zealand,” Beyer said. Same-sex partners to get tax rights TEL AVIV, ISRAEL — The Income Tax Authority has recently asked the attorney general to support a lenient interpretation of the inheritance law that would allow same-sex partners to transfer property rights from one to the other without having to pay a tax. Income Tax Commissioner Tali Yaron-Eldar announced the move on February 22 at the Businesswomen’s Forum in Tel Aviv. By law, the transfer of real estate between partners is tax free, but as it stands now the language of the law refers to heterosexual couples. Justice Minister: grant unions and adoption rights QUEBEC, CANADA — Quebec justice Minister Paul Begin says he wants the province to allow civil unions of same-sex couples and to recognize their rights to adopt children. .“We should say yes to adoption by a gay or lesbian couple, while spelling out the situations. That’s what I’ll be proposing to the government," Begin told a news conference. He said several groups told a legislature committee that children should have the same civil rights whether they’re cared for by heterosexual parents or by a same-sex couple.
