Sodomy laws arc used as an excuse for generally denying basic rights and equal treat ment to LGBT people. LBCTs are branded as crim inals and treated as second-class citizens. These laws are also widely used to justify discrimination in everyday life — denial of employment, blocks on custody or visitation with children and even intim idation out of exercising First Amendment rights. Join tbe WOW's email Lists Excitement is building about the' upcoming Witness Our Welcome 2003 conference this August. The ecumenical flavor of this event is what is most exciting because it truly demonstrates the spirit of what it means to be welcoming by cross ing denominational and theological barriers. Two online groups were formed to further connections between conference goers: WOWFRIENDS (national) — an ecumenical connections group for attendees of the 2002 conference and WOWCHARLOTTE (regional) — formed to connect the welcoming Churches pnd organizations and individuals in the central Carolina area. Interested parties are invited to join these two lists. P articipants are encouraged to work with other welcoming Church leaders in their area to create new regional and city WOW lists. WOW would like to become the standard name for the ecumenical welcoming Christian Church movement, and in that sense, help to promote participation in this conference, it would give a recognizable name for folks as they move or travel around the country to seek out resources and welcoming congregations.
