Following his departure the organization eventually folded. Since that time Kirsch’s energies have been directed towards CLGCC. Located at 1401 Central Ave., the space boasts 3,640 square feet that includes com munity, conference and resource rooms and office space for four other lesbian and gay organizations. Together, Kirsch and the CLGCC board raised over $ 120,000 to cover all con struction costs. With a grand opening on Feb. 1,2003, the first year saw over 7,(XX) visits to more than 480 programs, events and meetings. CLGCC has recently started a success ful campaign that allows donors to make a three-year commitment to finance pro grams and operations (budget is around $180,000 per year) and is also launching its annual member campaign this month. “We appreciate what Dan has helped the community build in such a‘short time,” Vipoll results Whiteside continued. “The center is financial ly healthy, has strong working relationships with area lesbian and gay organizations and most every day hosts programs or events that benefit the community. Dan will assist with the search for the new director and we expect a smooth transition. Our board is actively involved and is committed to continuing and growing the success of the center.” Although Kirsch has confirmed he will indeed leave this summer, no firm date has been set as of yet. “Helping create the [LGBT] Center from the ground up has been a remarkable opportuni ty,” said Kirsch. “I am so proud of what’s been accomplished and know that The Center will impact many lives in the years to come.” CLGCC has begun a national search for the executive director.
