Center requested to change codes
MIDLANDS — Those donating to the
work of SCGLPM and the Harriet Hancock
Center through the United Way are request
ed to give through code 9815 (for CRFC, the
Carolina Rainbow Family Coalition).
Because CLPM is a (c)4 organization, United
Way in the Midlands will no longer take
donations for GLPM (which was code 9333),
so the Center is requesting that donors use
9815, the code for CRFC, a (c)3 foundation
supporting the work of the Center.

SCPN organizing 'Leftypaloozo'
COLUMBIA — The S.C. Progressive
Network is organizing LeftyPalooza, a fair to
raise money, have fun and celebrate pro
gressive organizing. The Network is seeking
donations for this special fundraiser. You
can help by donating the dregs of your lefty
life: posters, bumper stickers, buttons,
videos, DVDs, gently used t-shirts with lefty
slogans and new or used lefty books, etc.

Pride Tour show kicks off Sept. 30
COLUMBIA/FLORENCE — The Pride
Tour fundraisers are beginning, raising
money for S.C. Pride 2006, which promis
es to be bigger and better than ever. Alley
Cafe in Columbia will host a show on
Friday, Sept. 30, at II p.m., with donations
accepted at the door. The Cha Cha Club in
Florence will host a show on Friday, Oct
21. More information is forthcoming.
Lesbian groups growing across state
STATEWIDE — Three email groups
designed for lesbian activities are growing
across South Carolina. Each group covers
a specific region spanning the state from
east to west.
The network began with SCLesbians
@yahoogroups.com, most of whose mem
bers and activities are in the upstate. The
second group is the ColumbiaSC
AreaNetwork@yahoogroups.com, focused
on the general Columbia area and the
Midlands. The most recent group to join is
the CharlestonSocialClub@yahoogroups.
com, based in the Charleston area. Each
group is closed, meaning a moderator has to
add new members. Each group requires new
members to provide a general introduction of
themselves to the group. If you or someone
you know is interested, email any group for
more information or to join.
Organizers are Rachel (for the Upstate),
Beth (in Columbia) and Lynn and Chris (for
Charleston). The Charleston group has a

S.C. Clergy Action Network forming
STATEWIDE — A S.C. Clergy Action
Network is being formed to help leaders in
the faith community join together and
speak out against discrimination in the
language of faith traditions. With the
amendment battle ahead, it will be impor
tant for faith leaders to come together and
help to educate congregations and com
munities about same-gender marriage and
gay and lesbian families, if you are inter
ested in the S.C. Clergy Action Network, go

faith-based alliance in South Carolina.
AFFIRM to host SCEC house party
GREENVILLE AFFIRM will host a
house party for SCEC on Oct. 7,8-9:30 p.m.
to raise awareness about the proposed con
stitutional amendment targeting LGBT fami
lies for discrimination. The event will include
a viewing of the SCEC DVD “Fairness for All
Families,” a discussion of how SCEC is
organizing to fight the amendment, and how
we can be involved. Join the youth of
AFFIRM and their families and friends for an
evening of education and empowerment.
Refreshments will be served and the youth
center will be open for viewing. Donations
are encouraged for the SCEC campaign.

Annual retreat: Penn Center Oct. 8-9
BEAUFORT — The ninth annual
Progressive Network retreat at Penn Center
in Beaufort is a must-attend event for South
Carolina’s social and political activists. It’s
a membership meeting, where most of the
55 organizations and individuals who
comprise the coalition meet for fellowship
and strategy sessions. All are welcome, but
only Network members may vote. The cost
for the weekend, including meals and
overnight accommodations, is $95. Some
scholarships are available.

AIDSWalk 2005
COLUMBIA — On Oct. 15, AIDSWalk
2005 will be held. The walk begins at
Riverfront Park at 9 a.m. The event will
feature music from local bands and an
awards ceremony. Standup comedian
Chelsea Handler will be the honorary
chair. She is star of Oxygen Network’s TV
show “Girls Behaving Badly.” Walk as an
individual or a team. Registration is $25,
but all are encouraged to join.
PALSS celebrales 20 years
COLUMBIA — Palmetto AIDS Life
Support Services (PALSS) will commemo
rate 20 years of service Oct. 10-16, with
several activities, including a special din
ner and a musical celebration.
On Oct. 10, enjoy an exclusive Italian
dinner at MangiaiMangia! with a portion
of the proceeds to be donated to PALSS.
On Oct. 14, PT’s Cabaret will present
ALIVE After Dark, a lively drag revue, with
proceeds to be donated to PALSS.
On Oct. 15, the annual AIDSWalk will be
held at 9 a.m. at Riverfront Park. (Registration
is $25, but all are encouraged to join in.) Also
on Saturday, TorchSongALlVE, a musical cel
ebration of songs from some of Broadway’s
most beloved musicals, will be held at the
Columbia Music Festival Association at 914
