SCEC needs volunteers at Club Pantheon every Friday and Saturday night collecting donations for the cause. SCEC needs male and female volunteers every weekend from 10 p.m.-midnight and from midnight-2 a.m. to collect donations in its jars and talk with patrons of Club Pantheon and Dudley’s. The presentation, which was spon sored by SCGLMP and the Columbia chapter of Parents Friends and Family of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), is part of the Center’s ongo ing Third Monday Workshop Series. Adams appeared in Columbia several years ago when “The Preacher’s Son” was released, telling the story of his journey from a cultish fundamentalist Baptist home, through reli gious schools and reparative therapy, finally to self-acceptance and freedom. Outsmart to host 'Youth Prom' during Pride COLUMBIA — Outsmart will host the Midland’s first prom for LGBT youth during Pride weekend. The event, for youth ages 16-22, will be held in the Rising High Building on Main St., 7:30-10:30 p.m., on May 20 following the Pride festival. All LGBT youth and their friends are invited. Formal attire is not required. Popular local DJ jason Wilson from Club Fusion will provide the music and Rising High will provide refreshments and food. Admission is free, but the group will be dis tributing tickets at the Pride festival in MLK Park. Charlotte author appears on Rainbow Radio COLUMBIA — On April 16 Rainbow Radio featured Shane Windmeyer, author of the new book, “Brotherhood,” a collec tion of essays on being gay in college fra ternities. The show is Rainbow Radio’s second special show focused on being Out on Campus. A resident of Charlotte, N.C., Windmeyer was in Columbia earlier this month to speak at the University of South Carolina and to appear at a special Business Guild event, the Gay and Greek House Party at PT’s Cabaret. The commentary comes from Richard Perala, a contributor to Windmeyer’s book, a graduate student at Clemson and coor dinator of Clemson’s Safe Zone program.
