Columbia Action Team activities COLUMBIA — South Carolina Gay and Lesbian Pride Movement (SCGLPM) President Kate Goodrich sends out a big thank you to everyone who braved the clouds and rain on Primary Day to “exit educate” the voters. “We had a majority of voters tell us that they would vote against the amendment,” says Goodrich. The organization’s next effort will be the South Carolina Bus Tour to educate rural and urban voters on amendment issues with the date to be set for either July 3 or July 10. Action Teams from all over S.C. will set up cardboard cut-outs at strategically chosen crossroads and intersections in towns across the state, handing out flyers and talking about the amendment.. These cut-outs will be of couples and families. Straight couples and gay couples, as well as different types of families (single parents and kids, grandmothers and grandchildren, etc.). Pride-goers interviewed for radio COLUMBIA — During Pride 2006, Rainbow Radio producer Jim Blanton went around with a microphone taping people’s sto ries about Pride, what Pride means and why people decided to participate. AFFA meeting to feature Carter CHARLESTON — Mandy Carter is a life long activist for women’s rights, LGBT equality and peace. In 1993, Carter co-founded SONG — Southerners On New Ground — to help build allies in in the South, connecting people of different races, classes, cultures, gender and sexual identities. She has devoted most of her life to the social justice movement, educating audiences about LGBT rights. Carter is a member of the national steering committee of Freedom To Marry, a former board member of the National Black Lesbian and Gay Leadership Forum and of the International Federation of Black Prides.
