I was in my teens and searching for other LGBTs, it was The Front Page newspaper that I came across that gave me a view of the world that showed me real people, in real lives, engaged in real activities — not the horror of the depections I saw in the scant references in films and magazines and not the damned souls Jesse said we were. The Front Page was for me a beacon of truth and a lifeline to know I was not alone and I was worthwhile! Jim Baxter sacrificed so much and blazed a trail to make it possible for all of us to get news of us. He is my hero, and I model the work I do to this day through OutWilmington as an extension of that lifeline Jim began all those years ago!” OutWilmington ... Salutes a True North Carolina Hero!
