FEBRUARY 23 .2008 • Q-NOTES 25 Drag Rag by Miss Della . Contributing Writer For the love of pageants and so much more... Happy belated Valentine’s Day, kiddies! Since love has been in the air recently, why not talk about my passion — pageants and the gyrls who do them. I’ll start off with one of my old faves. I forgot to mention in my last report that my mentor and mother. Miss Kerri Nichols, a former Miss Gay America, was in a show several weeks ago at Scorpio. The old gal is doing well, you know, and enjoying spinning hair at her own salon. Another former Miss Gay America, Tiffany Bonet, was recently at Scorpio, too, and turned the place out. She was in the show with the Starr ladies (Gypsy and daughter Emery) and a painted-for-the-cheap-seats Brooke Divine. I’m also reminded that the correction I made about the University of North Carolina-Pembroke show was actually erroneous. Morgan Richards did not appear, so now the record is straight. I was able to travel up to Raleigh recently with Lady Carmen for the opening of the showroom at Legends. It was so nice to see the stars of the show and to visit with some kids in the audience. Neely O’Hara made the trip, along with Big Shirli Stevenz, Jasmine James and Donnie Dee. Courtney Cox Parker, Amaya and Courtney Chambers were there as well. I also got a chance to meet Erica Diamond who works there at Legends, as well as visit with former Miss NC America Felicia Powers who is excited about the possibility of Miss NC coming back to Charlotte. That will be confirmed (or denied) later, but rumors do abound these days. It was good to visit with Felicia, who brought the DoU a box of Godiva chocolates. The show was great, with the likes of Kirby Kolby, Ebony Summers, Coti Collins (who treated us to illu sions of Reba and Dolly), Dana St. James and new emcee Victoria Parker who mooned us that night, thanks to a costume snafu. I haven’t laughed so hard in ages. Thanks, Pig! In pageant news, we have results from the Virginia Continental contests. The Elite is Jessica Raye, the PLUS is Sandra Lopez, Jasmine Bonet won the “original” and the Mr is Al Milan DuPree. * , Some exciting news from South Florida — back in mid-January, a benefit All-Star Gala was held at the Ritz in Ft. Lauderdale for the AROD Family Foundation and Bay Point Schools that featured Pamela Anderson, Lennox Lewis, Mario Winans, Tommy Davidson and ball-players Mike Piazza and Mo Vaughn. Locally, Miss National Plus was recently held at Warehouse 29. Chevelle Brooks was on hand to relinquish her title to Tara McRae. Her RU was Big Shirli Stevenz. Warehouse 29 also just held Miss Sweetheart of W-29. Cheetah Shaw won; her RUs were Crystal Collins and Sassi Stevenz. On the U.S.ofA; scene, we have a new Miss Mississippi, an old buddy of mine named Kandy Cayne, with RUs Natasha Braxton and Jasmine SX. Miss New Jersey is Aaliyah Kiana Du’Muse. Miss Sin City is former Miss EOY Nina DiAngelo. In the Classic division, Sheri Payne is the new Miss Indiana and Shae Shae LaReese is the new Miss Sin City. I failed to mention the results of the Miss United States contest, which was held months ago in Roanoke, Va., at the Park. Melissa Lane won and her RUs were Ashley Kruiz and Sandra Lopez. The other top finalists were Kristina Kelly,Deja Voo and Ceduxion. In closing, I dedicate this column to Erica Meadows of Baltimore who recently passed away. She was an alternate to Miss Gay Maryland America years ago and held her own show at the Hippo for many years. I’m told she was a great ole gal and will be missed greatly by the Chesapeake area.
