The low car- "'“tion banner went to Room 26 for three weeks, and to 36 and 34 each for one week. The highest metal production banner seems to be a fixture in Room 34. Sapp Price says he has bought that banner, and doesn’t intend to sell out. However, Room 32 put in a pretty strong bid for it the week end ing May 14, and according to all reports would have had it if someone had not gone to sleep and let 34 slip something like a thousand pounds or more of scrap metal away from them. When Stepp heard about it, he said he was going to lock his scrap metal up; but it was too late, the horse was “done gone.” Since the little touch of hot weather we have had lately, things have been rather dull in the pot rooms, and about all you hear these days is “Don’t get too hot.” On account of this, and one or two other reasons, our grades -have taken such a slump that we have not only lost our cigars, but let all the other plants except Shawinigan beat us on the percentage of number one metal. But we are not beat for keeps, and are go ing back to where we were, in spite of hot weather. We have at last found out what has become of so many of our long-handled shovels. Russ Leatherwood came in the other day from the ore bins, looking as tho he was trying to carry away all the ore we had on and about his person. Upon further investigation, after the tank had run dry, four shovels were found in the tank, and one had ob structed the valve, so it couldn’t be closed. Which just goes to show that “Murder will out,” and the ore gang will have to hunt another place to hide their tools. Mr. Horsfield, who served an appren ticeship at the Carbon Plant, is now with us in the pot lining department, and we are confidently expecting some improve ments there, for Jersey says he has been treated like a red-headed stepchild, any- ow, m regard to helping him out a little. Mr. Smith, of the Rodding Room, han gotten up a machine for smoothing down the burrs on a welded rod, that prom ises to be quite an improvement over the old method of grinding them down. The construction department is con creting the areaways between the pot rooms for us, which will at least make a much neater-looking place. J- 0. Craig Electrical Notes The subject of the greatest interest this month is the turbine test at Yadkin Narrows Power-House. Arrangements for making this test were started about ten months ago, but owing to war con ditions, and the inability of the local engineering force to fully understand and appreciate the fine points which must be considered before accurate re sults can be obtained, the test was post poned until Mr. Groat and his corps of INTERIOR VIEW—YADKIN PALLS POWER-HOUSE
