BADIN, NORTH CAROLINA, 1919
c^DVANTAGES OF BADIN
F there be one State in the Union (and we say it not
in a boastful spirit) that may challenge com
parison with any other, that State is North Caro
lina; and if there is one town in the Union more progressive,
more wide awake, more alive to its possibilities than Badin
rooms, and abundant opportunities for canoeing and other
water sports.
The Educational Advantages for both white and
colored, which are second to none in the State, will be ex
plained more in detail on the following pages.
THE LAKE COVERS AN AREA OF ABOUT SIX THOUSAND ACRES. AND HAS A SHORE-LINE OF NINETY-ONE MILES
(and we say it not in a boastful spirit), we have yet to
learn of its identity.
Badin is situated in the Yadkin Valley, five hundred
®*id fifty feet above sea level, with a climate composed of
''ine parts sunshine to one of cloud; on the beautiful lake
Tallassee, its surface dotted with launches, motor boats,
®nd canoes; with abundance of good fishing, and hunting
the broad acres stretching back from its shores.
Badin’s Water Supply—The water from this same
is filtered, analyzed daily in our own laboratory, and
t*'Ped to every house in both the white and colored towns.
The Sewerage System—All streets are sewered, so the
**nitary conditions are well nigh perfect.
Cleanliness—All garbage and rubbish is removed reg-
'^'•fly, so that cleanliness may be added to our attributes.
There are also adequate churches, theater, enclosed base-
^•'1 parks, basket-ball and tennis courts, game and recreation
The town of Badin is divided into two separate and
distinct sections—the white and colored being entirely sepa
rated by the Plant and the Yadkin railroad.
In the whole townsite, the Company has provided a
large number of cottages, apartment houses, and bungalows
for the accommodation of its employees. These comfortable
and attractive houses rent at an exceedingly low rate, rang
ing from $4.50 per month for the cottages to $6.00, $8.00,
and $10.00 for the apartments. The bungalows, modernly
equipped, rent at a higher rate.
The Real Estate Department has recently put on the
market all of the above-mentioned property. (See their
proposition offered the employees later in this booklet.)
In the colored village, there are ample houses to take
care of the employees of the Company. This village is
known to be one of the best colored villages, if not the very
best, in the South.
