The A. M. E. Zion Church
Watch the churches of Badin grow,
because more and better are coming in,
and all say they like our town fine, and
are joining the church right along.
We had a box supper at the church
on Thursday night, November 4. Miss
L. E. Marable brought a nice box, which
sold for $2.75. Mrs. L. A. Donaldson
also brought a nice box, which was
bought by Mr. P. C. Demmings for $3.00.
Mrs. Nellie Marshall brought a large
box which sold for $2.90. Mrs. R. B.
Frazier’s Ibox sold for $2.90. Mrs Ken
dall, Mrs. iBertha' Smith, and others
brought nice boxes which sold for nice
prices. We ate supper at the church,
and had a fine time. Everybody seemed
to enjoy themselves.
Rev. G. H. Hall, of Mount Pleasant,
preached for Rev. Frazier at the A. M.
E. Zion Church last Sunday, at three
o’clock. Quite a number of his congre
gation were present, and aided substan
tially in raising a nice collection of $25.00.
Rev. Frazier and his congregation will
go and be with Rev. Hall at the Mount
Pleasant church, Sunday, November 14,
1920.
We had with us, a short time ago.
Rev. A. McLees, better known as the
“Black Sam Jones.”’ He preached three
nights, to the delight of the many that
heard him.
When you come to Badin, be sure to
visit the A. M. E. Zion Church, finished
and complete in every detail, located on
the corner of Mayo and Dewry Streets.
Rev. J. S. Fletcher, of Norwood, spent
a few days in our city last week, visit
ing friends and members from Norwood.
Rev. Frazier left for High Point
November 17, to attend the Annual Con
ference, wh’ch convened there on that
date. It is hoped that he will return
for another year.
A few days ago the two stewardess
boards of the A. M. E. Zion Church
turned over to the pastor $155.80. Board
number one, of which Mrs. Daisy Forrest
is president, reported $77.00. Board
number two, of which Miss L. E. Mara
ble, is president reported $78.80. Both
of these boards work hard for their
church and pastor.

Locals
The members of the Holy Church have
purchased the building on the corner of
Thomas and Wayne Streets. They have
remodeled it to make it suitable for hold
ing services, and are having interesting
and lively meetings regularly.
Dr. Peacock, president of Shaw Uni
versity, Raleigh, N. C., spoke to the
colored people of Badn, Sunday, Novem
ber 7. His address was very interesting
and helpful.
The ladies of the Av M. E. Zion
Church gave a very successful box party
Thursday night, November 4. The finan
cial results we understand were very
gratifying.
Mrs. Mary Sampson, of 100 Lincoln
Street,’ has been quite sick for several
days. We hope for her a speedy recovery.
A few days ago the stork visited Mr.
and Mrs. Perry Madison, and left them
a fine boy. Congratulations!
Will Reed, who has been spending
some time in Kannapolis, is In our city
again.
Mack Chappie, of 231 Wilson Street,
is quite sick at this writing.
Mrs. Mary Lee is visiting relatives at
her old home, CliO| S. C.
Washington Lee has been home for a
few days. He reports having a good
time.
Ezell Gibson, of Kannapolis, is now in
Badin.
Negro Village News
It might be of interest to the readers
to know that we have quite a number of
business enterprises owned and operated
by the negroes of Badin. We hear quite
regularly of the doings along religious
and fraternal lines, but very seldom have
we had brought to our attention the
steps we are taking along business lines.
We wish to call your attention to a
few of our leading business enterprises.
Martin & Yountz are operating quite
successfully a first-class Cafe and Fruit
Stand in the building formerly occupied
by Mr. Bob Crump. They have a first-
class, well stocked, clean establishment,
and are doing a fine business. Mr. J.
J. Greene is proprietor of the Pioneer
Shoe Store. He has on hand a fine stock
of ladies’, men’s, and children’s shoes.
He reports good business. Mr. W. F.
Porcha owns and operates an up-to-date
electric shoe shop on Roosevelt road.
Mr. B. C. Coble owns and operates an
up-to-date electric shoe shop on Sher
man road.
The Dreamland Theater, owned and
operated by Henry Brooks, is one that
ranks with the best of its kind. The
proprietor furnishes his patrons with
the best pictures that can be secured,
and has every week the best colored
theatrical companies on the road. In
the Theater building Messrs. Brooks and
Lee also operate a first-class Barber
Shop.
Mr. D. E. Bell is operating a very
successful fish and oyster house on Grant
street. He is doing a big business. Mr.
W. H. Pearson has a first-class Barber
Shop on the corner of Grant and Sher
man Roads. He also carries a nice line
of groceries and fruits. Mr. Will Harris,
on Sherman Road, is proprietor of a
first-class Barber Shop, and has a full
stocked Grocery Department connected.
He also operates a first-class transfer
service. Messrs. Key & Kale operate a
large wood and coal yard on Sherman
Road.
