You will find the word equipped in its broadest sense, for the school is fitted up with every thing that either teacher or pupil could desire. The school surpasses others in a most noticeable way, in that it was established wiith a view of meeting the needs of not only the child who is of school age, but the other mem bers of the family as well. The child under school age is cared for in the kindergarten; the extension department provides for the one who has to work; and the mother is benefited by attending the domestic science class. The school building has been termed by school authorities the finest school building, from the standpoint of modern school architecture, construction, and equipment, in North Carolina. It is built of reinforced concrete and brick, and located in a very appropriate as well as convenient place. The environments are all that anyone could desire; the grounds include about ten acres, a part of which has been fitted up with modern playground equipment, necessary to afford every child the exercise needed for his physical well being. A part of the school grounds is used to develop the experimental gardens, which are necessary to make a child s education complete. Trained teachers are employed for each special subject. This gives the pupils an exceptional advantage, because they are guided in their studies and deportment in a scientific manner. This year, one more grade has been added, so now the school system of BADIN is organized through the eleventh grade. The departmental work begins in the sixth grade, and continues through the eleventh. Beginning at the bot tom, the system includes the following: Kindergarten, Ele mentary School, Junior High School, High School, and the Extension Department. INDUSTRIAL ARTS The course in Industrial Arts is open to every boy above the sixth grade. This course includes cabinet-making and wood turning, and aims to teach the boys the construction of the simpler pieces of furniture from the standpoint of factory methods. The installation of a wood-turning lathe makes the work more complete this year. It has an educa tional as well as vocational value, and gives the boys knowl edge and appreciation of tools and their uses. HOME ECONOMICS The work in Home Economics aims to give the children an understanding of the home and its various activities. In the sixth grade, a general course is given to boys and girls alike, including a study of the house, planning and furnishing it, cleaning and caring for it; also a study of clothes and foods, their production and preparation for our use, and relative values. The course in the higher grades is for girls alone. In the seventh grade, the domestic science is a continuation of the elementary course begun last year, with special emphasis on suitable combinations of dishes for meals, and the ser ving of meals. The work in domestic art is the use of simpler stitches in constructing garments which the children will need. BADIN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
