(jg') Dyke Raese, head basketball men tor, yesterday. And with that statement came word that although the squad was small those who composed it were former college stars who could be counted on to give the Cloudbusters a smooth working quintet come winter and bas ketball. Heading the list of those who will star on the Woollen gym hardwood this winter are such stars as Gus Broberg, ex-Dartmouth star and captain; John Masterson of Syracuse; John Barr, All-American basketball player from Penn State; Forest Kendall, ex-Davis Elkins college star; Kenneth Hash- hagen. University of Pennsylvania; Howard Clifton McWilliams, Jr., also of Penn State; John Kraft of St. Joseph’s, and Bernard Schiffer of CCNY. At this writiing Broberg and Mas terson have the mside track on the for ward positions, Barr looks best at the center spot, and Hashagen and Kendall are running in the guard slots on the number one team. Coach Raese, whose West Virginia team last year won the New York sports writers’ invitational tournament in Madison Square Garden, will use a deceptive, fast cutting offense, depend ing largely upon tricky passes to set up scoring plays. A combination zone and man to man will be used on de fense. Broberg and Barr are perhaps the two most famous players on the squad. See basketball, page 6 Among Those Present Among the V-5 instructors who are taking their indoctrination here this month are Jim Tatum, who was head football coach at the University of North Carolina this past fall, and Buddy Hassett, former major league baseball player. —Buy War Bonds- PRE-FLIGHT JEWELRY CHRISTMAS GIFTS Ledbetter-Pickard (Open until Christmas on Sunday afternoon from 1:30 to 5:30) Try CAROLINA PHARMACY The Rexall Store PHILIP LLOYD, Prop. • teUA FRANK Tl A XT RICHARD REGINALD HEnW MORGAN • CARLSON • OWEN • O’NEILL ' • On the Same Proffram • • On the Same Program • DISNEY CARTOON “PLUTO AT THE ZOO”—LATEST NEWS CAROLINA today Cadets — Officers — Instructors Christmas Gifts Should Be Mailed Next Week if You Want Them to Arrive on Time.
