Opening Last Month
Since Navy Hall opened March
13, 460 visitors have registered in
the Guest Book. The majority
were parents or relatives of the
cadets, coming for the most part
from the New England states.

Finish Training
Course Here
The 139 new V-5 officers who
have been undergoing indoctrina
tion here during the past month
completed their training this week,
and after brief leaves, will take
up duties as instructors in the
naval aviation program at Pre-
Flight Schools and other bases
throughout the country.
Forty-one of the officers, newly
trained in naval customs and tra
ditions, military techniques, and
physically conditioned for the job
ahead, have been assigned for duty
at this station.
Among the nationally known
personalities who will take up
duties elsewhere is Ensign Cor
nelius Warmerdam, USNR,
world’s champion pole vaulter,
who demonstrated his vaulting
skill for Carolina sports fans sev
eral times during his stay at
Chapel Hill. The former Cali
fornia school teacher will return
to familiar territory when he re
ports to the U. S. Navy Pre-Flight
School at Del Monte, Cal.

This morning at 1140 the
Sports Program Flag Staff, lo
cated on the lower end of Alex
ander Field facing the Raleigh
Road, will be dedicated.
The entire regiment of cadets
will be present, and short talks
will be made by Lt. Comdr.
James P. Raugh, USNR, Ex
ecutive Officer, and Lt. Comdr.
Harvey J. Harman, USNR,
Athletic Director.
Lieut. Charles C. Bream, Jr.,
Sports Program Head, will call
off the names of each squadron
and a representative will come
forward and raise his squad
ron flag on the flag staff.
