Cloudbuster Beats Carolina Effective pitching on the part of Gonzales gave the Cloudbusters a 3 to 1 victory over Carolina here last Saturday afternoon in a well played contest. It marked the first loss of the season for the Tar Heels who are leading the “Ration League.” The Pre-Flighters scored first in the third when Conlin walked, stole second, and came home on Bonifant’s single. Another was added in the fourth when Niemic led off with a double, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored when Curtis Eastman went out, short to first. In the fifth inning came the final Pre-Flight score. Katz and Ravashere received free passes to first to open the inning, and the former scored a moment later when Niemic singled to left center. Gonzales had the University lads well in hand throughout. Ex cept for a brief lapse in the ninth inning when they scored once, they failed to threaten. The game was sparked by tight defensive play by both teams, only one error being registered. ...And Davidson Lt. George D. Kepler, USNR, Head Baseball Coach, used 22 players here Tuesday afternoon as the Cloudbusters defeated Davidson College, 14 to 7. Starting off with a five run bar rage in the first inning, the locals had complete charge of the game throughout. Conlin, the third baseman, started it with a double and was followed by Bonifant, who singled, and Marchand who doubled. When the firing was over and the side finally retired, the Cloudbusters led, 5 to 0. Again in the sixth the Cloud busters had a field day. T. J. Ravashere, first up, hit the first Pre-Flight homer of the year deep into right field. Niemic, Marou- sek, and Eastman followed with singles. Pitcher Brosang was out, second to first, but Cadet Hag- strom, subbing for Colin, connect ed for another home run. Boni fant, who followed, was safe on Maloney’s error, and outfielder Katz tripled to send him home. Cadet Ernest Brosang started on the mound for the Cloudbusters and received credit for the win. ... Bows to Duke Limited to five singles by the right handed slants of Duke’s Harry Palmer, the Cloudbuster nine went down to a 7-0 defeat Wednesday afternoon in a Ration League game at Coombs Stadium on the Duke campus. Finding the slants of Pre-Flight pitcher Gonzales to their liking, the Blue Devils teed off on the ex- Boston Red Sox hurler and his seventh inning relief Ivan Flesser for a total of twelve hits and seven runs while holding the Navy run- less. Rowland Sailer led the attack for the Duke outfit, gathering two singles and two doubles in four trips to the plate while batting in two runs. George Bonifant led the ’Busters with a pair of singles. The loss was the first for Gon zales, after having pitched two victories for the Pre-Flighters in the Ration League. Ration League Standings W L Pet.
