Thursday night of last week the Durham Bulls of the Piedmont League were defeated, 11 to 4. The 23rd Regiment, New River Ma rines, lost to the Cloudbusters on Sunday, and on Wednesday after noon at Wake Forest the Army Finance School was defeated, 8 to 1. (jg) Robert Williams, USNR, registered his third straight win against no defeats against the Marines at New River, the score being 10 to 6. At Wake Forest on Wednesday afternoon Cadet Lawrence Anderson won handily over the Army Finance School, 8 to 1. The game with New River, play ed there, provided the most ex citement. Played before over 2,- OOO Marines the contest was un usually close until Ensign Ed Moriarty cleared the bases with a 400 foot drive into deep left field in the seventh inning. As it was three runs were scored but Moriarty was not even credited with a hit having failed to touch first base. Successive singles by Mundo and Coates and Epps’ double gave the Marines a two run lead in the first. The Cloudbusters went ahead in the third on singles by V-5’er Harry Craft, Cadet Louis Gremp, V-5’er Victor Bradford and Ensign Moriarty. These four hits, aided by two base on balls, produced four runs. Again the Marines went ahead when in the fourth inning three I'uns were scored, but the Cloud busters tied it up in the fifth, and Moriarty’s long drive in the Seventh put the game on ice. Lt. (jg) John A. Hassett, USNR, with a triple and single, and Cadet Gremp, with two singles, led the hitting. Cadet Anderson, pitching against the Army Finance School, , blanke-d the Soldiers until the ninth when Stuka’s double drove in a run. Fesperman pitched for the Fi nance School until the sixth, when Akst took over. The Cloudbusters Scored three runs in the first inn- ing without the benefit of a hit. Four successive walks and two infield outs accounted for the runs. funs.
