Life Insurance Still Available Without Medical Examination “Less than three weeks remain to apply for National Service Life Insurance before it will be necessary to take a physical examination to qualify for such a policy,” it was announced this week by Lt. (jg) C. W. Smullen, USNR, station insurance officer. After August 10 only new recruits, with less than 120 days in service may take out this insurance without examination. “The medical examination waiver is ^ made possible by the Navy depart ment in the belief that Navy men everywhere wish to provide maxi mum security for their wives, chil dren or parents,” said Lt. (jg) Smullen. Under this waiver that will cease to exist after August 10, Navy men may extend the amount of their insurance, obtain addi tional policies for other members of the immediate family, or take out an initial policy without exam ination. Lt. (jg) Smullen pointed out that under certain conditions bene ficiaries actually receive $13,224 at the event of death of the in sured. “If the beneficiary of a $10,000 policy is under 30 years of age at the date of death of the insured payment by the National Service Life Insurance Company is made monthly at the rate of $55.10 for 20 years,” said Lt. (jg) Smullen. “This amounts to $13,224. The $3,224 excess payment represents interest credited to the unpaid balance. “If the beneficiary is over 30 at the time of the insured’s death, payment is made in installments according to the beneficiaries age at the time of such death. Re gardless of how long the bene ficiary lives after payment begins, this monthly income is guaranteed for at least ten years, the contin gent beneficiaries receiving any unpaid installments due subse quent to the death of the primary beneficiary.” Premium for service men at age 25 is only 22 cents a day—or $6.70 monthly. Enlisted men and officers may apply for further informa tion at the Personnel Office in Alexander Hall. Movies Next Wednesday Films scheduled for Pre-Flight officers, cadets and enlisted men in Memorial Hall next Wednes day evening are “Eyes of the Navy,” “Recognition of the Jap Zero” and “Midway and Coral Sea Battles.” The showing will begin at 1930. Invest In The Future You’re Fighting For BASEBALL (Continued from page three) ton Braves, who scattered seven hits though walking eight. Both teams did some fancy field ing, and Cadet John Pesky show ed how he did it with the Boston Red Sox in the eighth when he went far to his right to turn Boley Todd’s hit into a double play. Other than Cadet Williams, who drove in four runs with three hits, Ensign Harry Craft, USNR, and Cadet Pesky had three hits for the Pre-Mighters. Just as good a ball game was the one here on Sunday with the Naval Air Station, and about the only difference was the superb play of Cadets Louis Gremp and Joseph Coleman. Gremp, besides driving in three runs with a homer and single in three trips to the plate, handled nine chances in the field without an error. On three occasions he came up with almost impossible stops. Cadet Joseph Coleman, winning his eighth game against one loss, went the route for the Cloudbust- ers allowing six hits. With the ex ception of the fifth inning when the Air Station scored its three runs he encountered little diffi culty. A base on balls to Cadet John Pesky, singles by Lt. (jg) John Hassett, USNR, and Gremp, and Cadet Theodore Williams’ double produced three Cloudbuster runs in the first. Another was added in the second when Ensign Harry Craft, USNR, singled to left scor ing Lieut. Alexander Sabo, USNR. Gremp’s home run with Hassett on first scored two of the three runs in the eighth. The other came about when Lt. (jg) Morriss Deutsch, USNR, singled and came home on Ensign Moriarty’s triple to deep right. All of the Air Station runs were the results of home runs. A1 Evans, former Washington Senator catcher, hit for the cir cuit with none on, and Hub Wal ker of the Detroit Tigers hit a round tripper with Sal Recca on base.
