Grewenow Chaplain Corps, USNR “America’s most prized document” is as carefully guarded as any military movement. The Declaration of Independence is secure in its war-time location and only on special oc casions is it placed on public exhibition. When it is, it is protected by a marine guard twenty- four hours a day and can be viewed only through bullet-proof glass in a heavy steel case. This is symbolic and prophetic. The free dom which this precious document champions needs to be guarded and maintained. The Declaration of Independence recognizes na ture’s God and the beneficent Creator as the Source of our blessing of freedom. Again, this is prophetic for our day. Turning back the pages of our history we read the name of Christ in the charters of our colonies, in the regulations for their gov ernment, in the letters of the early settlers; we note their zeal in building churches and in training their young in Christian truth. Here we find the fundamental facts which helped to make America great. To maintain her greatness, to maintain her freedom in our day and for the days to come, it is obvious that we must vigilantly guard the facts from which such greatness and free dom spring. We must maintain, rather we must increase, our religious status. Amid all the strenuous war efforts, this effort dare not lapse. To paraphrase, “What shall it profit America to gain the peace and lose her own soul?” Personnel Changes Twelve officers have been detached from this station during the past two weeks.
