Saturday, October 2, 1943 CLOUDBUSTER Page Three Everything Was Perfect Except Score of The Football Game EVERYTHING TURNED OUT SWELL on the trip to the Naval Academy last Saturday except the score of the football game. Pictured above are some of the highlights. On the left is Harold Hanson, Sp (P) 2c of the photography department, who took pictures of the game, while on the right are Jimmy Dolan and Ted Husing, who handled a broadcast of the game over the Columbia Broadcasting System. Jamagin, USNR, standing in front of the famous Indian Tecumseh statue. This is the statue to which the Midshipmen throw pennies before an exam. Two Tied For Lead In Sports Program Moving up from second and fourth places respectively the Cor' onados and Helldivers are tied for first place in the Sports Program standings. The Devastators, who Were in first place last week, moved into the third spot while the Vin dicators are in fourth place two points behind. The Kingfishers, with 38 are next, followed by the Skyrockets with 29, the Buffalos, Mariners, and Mustangs with 28, the Cata- linas with 25, Buccaneers 25, and Wildcats 12. The Helldivers have won three, lost none in boxing and swimming, have won four and lost three in soccer, have won one, lost one and tied one in track, have lost one in "Wrestling, and tied one in football. The Coronados are undefeated in wrestling and swimming, have two wins against a single loss in track, have three wins and four losses in soccer, have won one, lost one, and tied one in boxing, and played a tie in their only football Same. Wrestling Tournament Finals Held at Regular Station Smoker Finals in the Regimental Wrestling Tournament were scheduled to be completed last night as ten cadets squared off in five fast bouts at the station smoker. The other three champions were crowned on Thursday afternoon at the wrestling pavilion. Although the final standings of the individual squadrons were not available when the Cloudbuster went to press, the Coronados were heavy favorites to capture team honors. Going into the final^'with five men they held a comfortable margin over their nearest rivals— the Vindicators, Skyrockets, and Buffalos. “The tournament was success ful from both the participant and spectator point of view,” Lieut. Charles Speidel, head wrestling coach, stated. “Most of the cadets in the finals were evenly matched, and the bouts were close.” Speaking of the 16 finalists Coach Speidel pointed out that all of them had to defeat some good men along the way. “There were no real standouts,” he said, “but the boys took the tournament seriously. They all wanted to win.” On the smoker program were Cadets R. Hearn of the Buccaneers See WRESTLING, page U Soccer Team Defeats Duke University, 2-1 The Pre-Flight soccer team re mained undefeated as it defeated a strong team from Duke here Wednesday afternoon, 2 to 1. Cadet J. K. Koelsch scored the first Pre-Flight score, Duke tied it up a moment later, and with 10 minutes to go Cadet H. G. Morris registered the margin of victory. Lieut. Earle Waters, USNR, who turned out several national championship soccer teams at West Chester State Teachers col lege before being commissioned in the Navy, has charge of soccer here. Also, it was their first game, and they definitely lacked the perfec tion they will have later in the season. Never did the Pre-Flighters get in scoring position. They started on one or two occasions, but the Naval Academy line held, the ball went over on downs. Bill Kry- wicki, Vernon Bennett and Web ster Moriarta did most of the Pre- Flight ground gaining. Neither Bennett or Moriarta have had any varsity college experience. About the only good news for Coach Kimbrough this week was the arrival of Cadet Cecil Hare, blocking back last year for the Washington Redskins. Although he is not yet acquainted with the Cloudbuster style of play, he should give the Pre-Flighters ad ditional strength on the offensive side of the ledger.
