Vol. 2—No. 15 U. S. Navy Pre-Flight School, Chapel Hill, N. C. Friday, December 24, 1943 The Station’s Santa Claus, in Most Cases, Was the Post Office THE BUSIEST SPOT on the station for the past two weeks has been the Navy Post Office, located in the basement of Navy Hall. In the photo on the left is shown Gene Strowd, CSP (M), USNR, with an armful of packages, while in the center, left to right, Ralph Bauthues, Sp3c (M), USNR, and Alan Abner Barker, Sp2c (M), USNR, are shown sorting a part of the mail which came in Monday morning. On the right the photographer snapped a group of cadets from the various halls as they started back with the mail. What the picture doesn’t tell, though, is that most of them had to make more than one trip. Post Office Kept Busy At Christmas A Chief Boatswain once re marked that mail specialists work ed only twice a year—Christmas and New Year’s. Just how much truth is in the above statement is hard to say, but it’s most definite that the mail specialists on this station have been kept more than busy for the past 10 days. There is a famous slogan of the Post Office Department, which says, in part, that the mail must go through, regardless. And as special assistants to Santa Claus, the local post office crew has had to work long hours, extending far into the night, in order to carry out that slogan. See POST OFFICE, page
