Scoring a total of 205% points this group of cadets captured the Winter Sports Program crown. In the Fall Sports Program competition the Mustangs were second to the Coronados who ended up in 11th place in the present standings. Pictured on the front row, left to right, are the coaches: Lt. (jg) R. W. Paugh, USNR, swimming; Lieut. Joe Jones, USNR, boxing; Ensign W. M. Givens, USNR, wrestling; Ensign C. A. Miller, USNR, squadron director; Lt. (jg) C. C. Kelly, USNR, assistant squadron director; Lt. (jg) R. L. Barrick, USNR, gym and tumbling; Ensign C. M. Bowden, USNR, basketball; and Ensign R. B. McLeary, soccer. Dance for 42nd Battalion Planned For March 11 Cadets of the 42nd Battalion are advised to make their plans now for the Senior Battalion Dance to be held in the Pine Room of Lenoir Hall on Satur day, March 11. Dancing will start at 2100 and end at 2400. Liberty for the 42nd will be extended on the night of the dance to 0030, with taps coming at 0045. Uniform for the cadets will be service blue, able, while ladies will have the option of coming formal or informal. Cadets H. Edward Brunhoff, William J. Haggarty, Kenneth G. Leeson, Cornelius M. Downing, David Lawrence, and John J. Farmer, who represent the 42nd Battalion on the Welfare and Rec reation Committee, are in charge of arrangements for the dance. Complete show one hour, 38 minutes. SHOWN IN the box below is a composite picture of the record made by each squadron in Winter Sports Program competition. As noted above, the Mustangs won individual honors with a 205 point total. The Skyrockets and Vindicators were tied for the soc cer crown at the end of the regu lar season’s play. A playoff gave the championship to the Vindi cators, 2 to 1. The Buccaneers, who won the second half of the basket ball competition, defeated the Sky rockets, winners of the first half, by a 31 to 19 score in the decid ing game played on Tuesday after noon. Until You Drop Bombs— Buy Bonds Local Boxers Defeat CASU-21 From Norfolk A boxing team, representing the Carrier Aircraft Service Unit from Norfolk, was defeated by the Pre-Flight Cloudbusters here last Friday night, the score being 5 to 3. A crowd of 2,000, mostly cadets, watched the Pre-Flighters win three of the first four bouts from the • highly touted visitors. The final outcome, however, was in doubt until the seventh bout of the evening when Cadet Miller, at 162 pounds, decisioned Thomas to clinch the meet for the Cloud busters. All of the bouts were keenly contested with Pre-Flight winning four, and two ending in draws. Previously the Cloudbusters had defeated the 4th Field Artillery from Ft. Bragg and lost to the University of Virginia. Summary: 127 pounds—S h r e v e (Pre- Flight) decisioned Entrekin. 135 Pounds—Barnes (Pre- Flight) decisioned Debaby. 145 pounds—Duno (Casu-21) decisioned Walker. 150 pounds—G rant (Pre- Flight) decisioned Benson. 150 pounds—D raw between Achung (Pre-Flight) and Sund- berg. 155 pounds—Werner (Casu-21) decisioned Jarina. 162 pounds—Miller (Pre- Flight) decisioned Thomas. 174 pounds—Draw between Graney (Pre-Flight) and Piasecki- Bob Hope says the shore patrol’s job is to keep sailors from getting as tight as their pants.
