A six year old youngster was talking things over with his mother shortly before going to the hospital for a minor operation. “Mother,” he said, “Fm going to be a good boy at the hospital, and take all the medicine they give me. But I’m not going to let them put anything over on me like they did you when they gave you a baby. What I want is a dog.” * ' * * ^ * Papa Stork: “I sure had a busy day today. I delivered 168 babies.” Mama Stork: “Yeh, I had a big day, too. I delivered 142 babies.” Kid Stork: “Well, I didn’t do so much to day, but I sure scared hell out of a couple of high school kids.” ***** Funeral director (to aged mourner): “How old are you, pop?” “I’ll be 98 next month.” “Hardly worth going home, is it?” Once upon a time, the story goes, a lady opened her Westinghouse refrigerator, and there sat a little white rabbit. “My goodness,” she cried, “what are you doing here?” “This is a Westinghouse, isn’t it?” asked the rabbit. “Yes, it is.” “Well,” sighed the little rabbit, “I’m west ing.” ***** A woman got on the train with nine chil dren, and when the conductor came for her tickets she said: “Now these children are thirteen years old and pay full fare, but those over there are only six, and these three here four and a half.” The conductor looked at her in astonishment. “Do you mean to say you get three every time?” he asked. “Oh, no,” she replied. “Sometimes we don’t get any at all.” Something . Lt. (jg) Donald G. Edgar, USNR, and Lt. (jg) John .0. Reynolds, USNR, both of the academic department, became the first officers at this station to receive an expert rating in the .38 Revolver Course held on the rifle range. Lt. (jg) Reynolds performed the feat first with a mark of 211, and Lt. (jg) Edgar fol lowed with a mark of 214. In the ,38 Revolver Course one must register at least a total of 210 out of a possible 240 to be rated an expert. Over 100 officers and enlisted men have re ceived instruction on the range under the di rection of Warrant Officer Faustin E. Wirkus, USMC. The course includes eight classes over a two weeks period, and 18 can be included in a class. Ten officers were in the group which just completed their training. Other than Lt, (jg) Edgar, and Lt. (jg) Reynolds, two other of ficers received ratings of sharp shooters. This means a total of at least 192 out of the possible 240. Lieut. Ren wick Curry, USNR, and Lt, (jg) Elswood S. Hill, USNR, were the sharp shooters. The former had a mark of 203, while the latter had 193. A person making more than 170 out of the possible 240 is rated a marksman. Male CaU bf Milton Caniff, creator ^0 Shoot At Warrant Officer Wirkus pointed out'that, “a .22 rifle is used during the first week of the course, and the proper trigger squeeze and sighting is stressed. At the beginning of the second week comes a .38 revolver. This latter gun is used to qualify. One phase of the train ing received is a familiarization course using a Thompson Sub Machine Gun, a Browning Machine Gun, and a .30 Calibre Carbine M-1.” A person qualifying for a rating will fire at three different speeds—time fire, rapid fire, and slow fire. The former requires six shots to be fired in 30 seconds, rapid fire indicates six in rapid succession, and slow fire leaves the speed up to the individual, A new course, under the direction of War rant Officer Wirkus, will start Monday.
