(c) In order to determine the standings for each battalion in any sport the following diagram will be used. The team finishing first in any sport will be credited with 30 points, the second place team 20, third place 10, fourth place 5, and last place 0. Points gained in the Sports Program will be added to the points gained in the other phases of competition in order to determine the final standing for all battalions. Lieut. Comdr. Burton Ingwer- sen, USNR, station athletic di rector, has charge of the adminis tration and conduct of the new program, and the individual Bat talion Commander will automatic ally become the Athletic Director for his battalion. “Every effort will be made,” says Lieut. Comdr. Ingwersen, “to get the battalions to work together as a team. Teamwork will win this War, and the cadets here will real ize the importance of working to gether.” During the regular Sports Pro gram competition the cadets will be judged on more than winning or losing. Among the things to be Considered will be spirit, deter mination, command of skill, self control, courage, coordination, en thusiasm, judgment, stamina, and team cooperation. At the end of the regular two Weeks’ period the battalion having the most points will be judged the Winning battalion and receive the Special liberty award. Cadet Farley Pitches One Hitter As Pre-Flighters Defeat UNC, 9-1 Two games out front in Ration League play, the Cloudbusters will be out to increase their lead this afternoon at Durham when they go against the second place Duke Blue Devils at 1500. Here on Wednesday, behind the superb one hit pitching of Jack Farley, the league leaders registered an easy 9 to 1 victory over the University of North Carolina, and on last Saturday, at Annapolis, Md,, the U. S. Naval Academy was*^ defeated by the same score. Dusty Cooke, playing center field, started the Pre-Flighters to victory at Annapolis when he led off with a single in the second frame. McConnell, who followed, walked, and Crampsey, next up, singled home the first run. That was the beginning of the end for the Naval Academy who scored their lone run in the fifth frame on RATION LEAGUE STANDINGS W L Pet. Again Cooke figured in the rally, his single scoring the first run. Paugh started on the mound for the winners, and was relieved by Farley in the last of the sixth. Somerville finished up in the ninth. Cooke, Crampsey, and Thomp son had three hits apiece to pace the hitters. Wayer collected two of the six blows registered by the Naval Academy. Against Carolina, Cadet Farley had a no hitter until Bill Gilliam slapped out a line single between second and short with one down in the ninth. The game was Navy and Farley all the way. In the first, third, fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth innings, the tall cadet retired the Tar Heels in order. Carolina scored its one run in the sixth inning on no hits when Dallas Branch was walked, ad vanced to second on Falk’s error, the only Cloudbuster miscue of the contest, went to third on a fielder’s choice and tallied on Gilliam’s fly to left field. Three errors gave the Cloud busters three runs in the first, and another was added in the second when Hoos singled to start the inning, and Gaulin tripled. Cloudbusters Finish Second In Triangular Meet Charlie Beetham, weai'ing the colors of the U. S. Navy Pre- Flight School, won three first places and ,15 points, but the best the Cloudbusters could do was second place in the triangular f;rack meet held last Saturday at Durham between the U. S. Naval* Academy, Duke University and Pre-Flight. First with 86 points was the Naval Academy, while the Cloud busters had 45 1/3. Duke was third with 31 2/3. Running on a wet track and in a slow drizzle, the Annapolis team registered eight first places; Bee tham was first in the 440, 880 and low hurdles.
