Page Four CLOUDBUSTER Saturday, May 27, 1944 Regimental Review PARTICIPATING in the Regimental Review on Wednesday were the Pre-Flight and French Cadets pictured in the two photos above. SPORTS (Continued from page one) In track Cadet Robert O’Dell of the 48th set a new record in the low hurdles with the time of 13.8. This breaks the previous record of 14.0 held by Cadet Patterson of the 30th. Other track winners were Cadet Blake of the 48th in shot put with a distance of 33' 3%", Cadet Roth- rock of the 47th in the broad jump with a distance of 18' 8", Cadet O’Dell in the 100 yard dash with the time of 11.1, Cadet Stein in the % mile run with the time of 3:45.4, Cadet Windsor of the 47th ?n the obstacle race with the time of 3:04, Cadet McCannery of the 48th in the 440-yard dash with the time of 58.2, and the 47th won the medley relay with the time of 4:14.9. In swimming Cadet Dawds of the 47th set a new record in the 100 meter breast stroke. The new time of 1:10 beats the previous mark of 1:13 held by Cadet Spangler. Cadet Eusden of the 49th won the 50 meter free style in 23.5, Cadet Langhan of 47th won the 25 meter underwater in 9:24, Cadet Wakely of 49th won 50 meter dress stroke in 29.7, Cadet Holt of 47th won 50 meter-racing back stroke in 31.2, Cadet Whately of 49th won 25 meter carry in 23.2, Cadet Dowesa of the 47th won the 50 meter back stroke in 36.3, and the 49th won the 200 meter free style relay. Winners in wrestling were Cadets F. J. McDonald, L. R. Bur ton, L. E. Dibble, C. H. Toll, J. M. Gabel, W. R. Campbell, S. P. Beachen, and R. Frederick, all of the 47th, and Cadets H. H. Sim mons, W. S. Powers, H. 0. Moore, C. J. Whitmore, J. J. Conway, G. A. Hahn, and D. A. Dittman of the 51st. Cadets I. W. Keen, R. F. Os mond, R. H. Hasle, J. J. Duffy, E. R. Eagen, J. F. Langtry, J. T. Loob, Goodworth, L. S. Green, J. P. O’Donnell, D, McGee, and 0, K. Mullen, all of the 47th, won in box ing, as did J. P. Alexander, J. P. Smith, C. R. Nobling, and P. B. McCann of the 50th. The 47th Battalion scored a goal in soccer with two minutes to play to tie the game at 2-2. The score at half time favored the 47 th, 1 to 0. Cadet Roset scored the first goal for the 51st with 17 minutes to play, and Cadet Rosseau made the score 2 to 1 in favor of the 51st with 10 minutes remaining. Lieut. K. A. Both Admiral Hardison and Ad miral Murray viewed the various Pre-Flight activities while visit ing the station, and Admiral Har dison made a special trip out in the woods on Wednesday morning to check the survival training. Following the review the dis tinguished visitors attended the baseball game between the Uni versity of North Carolina and the Pre-Flight School on Emerson Field, and in the evening they were present for the Sports Carnival. The two sport events on the day’s program were held in honor of Capt. 0. 0. “Scrappy” Kessing, USN, the first Commanding Of ficer here. BTC (Continued from page three) first for the Pre-Flighters. Two more were added in the second when Gaulin hit a home run, scor ing Burkewitz ahead of him. Jim Crampsey singled home Dusty Cooke for the single run in the third, and five hits and three base on balls provided the Cloudbusters with six tallies in the fourth. Two base on balls, an error, and singles by Hatton, Wright and Castigilia scored three BTC runs in the third. Grosman’s double scored Trippi, who had singled, with another tally in the fourth. Baseball Game And Sports Carnival Add To Colorful Ceremony A SPORTS CARNIVAL on Fetzer Field and a baseball game between Pre-Flight and the University of North Carolina highlighted the second anniversary celebration. On the left is shovra Cadet John Pearson, Pre-Flight first baseman, making ready to catch a grounder from Shortstop Arthur Barnes. The throw was late, however, and the Carolina runner was safe. On the right, part of the cadets who participated in the Sports Carnival are shown as they mustered on Fetzer Field.
