The winning team in each event will garner 20 points, while the loser will pick up 15 points. In the 51st battalion, the two softball teams under the leader ship of Bloomquist and Oyler have jumped into the lead in total games won to date over the rep resentatives of the 52nd battalion captained by Page and Resinger. The two tennis teams under the leadership of Berman in the 51st and Woody of the 52nd have had a nip and tuck affair all week long, and it will probably take the final day’s competition to decide the issue. The calibre of play displayed by the basketball teams, under Suess and Schultz of the 52nd and Co-Captains Noelte and Lennek of the 51st has been nothing short of spectacular. The two groups are evenly matched and have been putting on a grand exhibition of ball-handling and shooting. Vol leyball, a late entry into the line of events, has reached a high point in play between the two teams, captained by Cramer of the 51st and Boynton of the 52nd. Only one track event was held between the two battalions, with the 52nd, un der the leadership of Detwiler, outrunning the group led by Cra mer of the 51st. Captains I. M. Brown and Joe Supp of the 52nd and 51st handball teams, respec tively, have put on some fine ex hibitions in the art of handball. The two battalions completed the first week of competition in a stalemate. The 51st captured top honors in softball, basketball, and volleyball, the 52nd winning in ten- Cross-Country Schedule Released Five varsity cross-country meets, one “B” team football game, one soccer contest, and one cross-coun try “B” meet was announced by the athletic office this week. The varsity cross-country team opened its schedule yesterday af ternoon against Carolina. Results, however, were too late for this week’s Cloudbuster. Other con tests include the Cherry Point Ma rines here on Sept. 24th, the U. S. Naval Academy there on Sept. 30th, Duke at Durham on Oct. 7th, and the University of Virginia at Charlottesville on Oct. 14th. On Sept. 30th “B” teams in foot ball, and cross-country will go to Kinston to play the Marine Air Ease located there, and on Oct. 4th the French cadets attached to this station will play Duke University, at Durham, in soccer. FOOTBALL (Continued from page one) Two backfield combinations are showing promise. Otto Graham at quarter, Frank Aschenbrenner and Bill Wilson at the halves, and G. V. Fellabaum at fullback compose one team, while D. P. Weitekamp at quarter, Levay and Sanders at the halves, and Price at full form the other. From end to end the team will average 194-pounds, while the backfield tips the scales at 177. r.is, handball, and track. Playoffs, to determine the top battalion, started on Monday of this week, and at present writing, the 52nd has jumped into the lead in total points. Such was the case in last week’s play, when the 51st led in points right up to the last day’s play; but the 52nd came from be hind to tie it all up—and necessi tate this week’s playoffs. Anything can happen—and the 51st will be in there right up to the last out. Personnel Changes Over the past two weeks 10 of ficers were detached from the sta tion and three reported aboard. Lieut.
