Regimental Dance Planned for Oct. 21 The first regimental dance of the fall season is scheduled for Woollen gym next Saturday from 2100 to 2400. The Pre-Flight or chestra, under the direction of Chief Smart, will turn out the rhythms, and added entertainment is being planned for the intermis sion. Cadet Glee Club Dance At Country Club Tonight A dance for members of both ca det choirs and glee club will be held at the Chapel Hill Country Club this evening from 2030 to 2400. Music will be furnished by a swing section of the Pre-Flight band. Liberty for the occasion has been extended to 0030, with lights out at 0045. Refreshments will be served throughout the dance. AP Rates ’Busters Second in Nation The victory over Duke Uni versity last Saturday vaulted the Cloudbusters into second place among the best college and service teams in the coun try, according to the first Asso ciated Press football poll of the 1944 campaign. Pacing the field was Notre Dame—the 1943 mythical na tional champion — with 800 points and 34 first place votes. The Cloudbusters were credited with 608 points and 24 first place nominations. Completing the first five were Army, Ran dolph Field, and Great Lakes, in that order. In the Williamson ratings is sued last week, the Cloudbust ers held down the third spot among the service teams with a mark of 93.3. Randolph Field was tops with 99.9 and Great Lakes second with 97.2. Pre-Flight School Joins in Observance Of University Day Officers and cadets of the Pre- Flight School last Thursday par ticipated in the observance of Uni versity Day here, marking the 151st anniversary of the founding of the University of North Caro lina. General theme of the celebra tion was constructed around what Carolina has done through the years to serve the state and the nation as an educational institu tion in peace and in war. At 1100 a representative group of Pre-Flight School officers and cadets attended special exercises in Memorial Hall where Lt. Gen. A. A. Wil liam Clark, officer in charge of the drive at this station. The station quota was $600, with the drive due to end next week. Cloudbusters Seek Fourth Straight Today at Virginia This afternoon at 1500 the Cloudbusters will be seeking their tourth straight victory—this time against the University of Virginia at Charlottesville. Led by Cadet Wally Schumach er, who will be starting at left end and who will be acting as team captain, the Cloudbusters will be heavy favorites. However, it might be well to mention that the Cavaliers have one of the better college teams in the South, and they’ll be out to upset the highly rated Pre-Flighters. Scouting reports on the Virgi nia team have caused Cloudbuster coaches much concern. Through out the past week the “B” team scrimmaged against the varsity using Virginia plays. They had uncanny luck throughout, es pecially on passing. Likely to start for Virginia will be Ward Speer and Hank Walker at the ends, Joe Kirkland and Ru fus Roberts at the tackles, Bruce Wood and John Meador at the guards, and Buck Palmer at cen ter. Allen Clay, Charlie Ellis and Joe McCary will all take turns calling signals for the varsity, while Lucien Burnett and Whitey Michels will alternate at fullback. Halfback standouts include John Duda, Dick Davis, Frank Good man, and Clyde Johnson. Several changes have been made in the Cloudbuster starting lineup.
