Camp Peary Eleven Favored Over
Cloudbusters Here This Afternoon
The Camp Peary Pirates, beaten only once on a 7-to-O decision to
Bainbridge Navy, will reign favorites to defeat the Cloudbusters to
day but, win, lose or draw, it will be a highly successful Pre-Flight
football season that will close in Kenan Stadium. The kick-off is
scheduled for 1430, following the parade of the Regiment.
Coached by Lieut, Comdr, Norman P. Strader, who in pre-war days
Was noted for his grid teams af^
St. Mary’s College in California,
the visitors from Williamsburg,
Va., are loaded with former All-
Americans who also starred in
professional football.
Coach Glenn Killinger of the
Cloudbusters considers Camp
Peary on a plane with Bainbridge,
which also was the only eleven to
defeat Carolina Pre-Flight this
year. Against the Cloudbusters
the Bainbridge juggernaut won,
49-20, but Camp Peary held the
galaxy of Maryland backs to less
than 30 yards on the ground.
“Camp Peary’s starting line is
better than that of Bainbridge,”
the Pre-Flight coach stated, “but
the backs are not as good.'' Indi
cations are that the Cloudbusters
will rely strongly on their passing
attack.
At the ends for Camp Peary
will be Ralph Schilling, an All-
Oklahoma ace, and John Rokiskey,
former All-American from Du-
quesne. The tackle spots are han
dled regularly by Lou DeFilippo
of Fordham and the New York
Giants, and by Bob Bjorklund, co
captain of Minnesota’s 1940 myth
ical national champions. At guard
are Don Creese of the University
of Colorado and Russ Letlow, an
All-American from San Francisco
U. and an all-National League
choice while with the Green Bay
Packers. The center is A1 Ma
tuza, a standout on Georgetown’s
