Page Four CLOUDBUSTER—SPORTS Friday, June 8, 1945 Cloudbusters Trim Carolina, 5-2, And Wallop Bragg, 20-3 The revived Cloudbusters grabbed a pair of wins last week-end, tripping the Univer sity of North Carolina, 5-2, on Saturday, and then mauling the Second Field Artillery team from Fort Bragg, 20-3, on Sun day. Saturday’s triumph was the first of the season over the Tar Heels, against three losses, and— temporarily at least—knocked the collegians out of a first place tie with the Duke Blue Devils in the Ration League race. Man - of - the - hour for Pre- Flight was Pitcher Ken Olson, of the 70th Batt, who not only lim ited Carolina to five scattered hits, but also aided his own cause with two timely safeties, one of them a resounding four- bagger to far left field in the sixth. After Carolina had tallied both of its runs in the opening inning the cadets scored a tying pair in the second on a single by Olson, an error and an infield out, and got what proved to be the winning marker in the third when First Baseman Wayne Kreidler singled after two of his teammates had been issued free tickets to first. Second Win Over Bragg In chalking up their second win of the season over Fort Bragg on Sunday, the ’Busters blasted out 18 hits, including three home runs, two triples and two doubles. While Pre-Flight was scoring in every inning but the second. Jack Fouts was limiting the sol diers to four hits before leaving the game in the seventh. Shortstop Halle led the attack with a homer, triple, and two singles in five trips to the plate. Ken Olson, playing center field, contributed his second four-bag- ger in two days, in addition to a single, while the third ’Buster round-tripper was smashed out by Kreidler, who also got him self a double and single in five attempts.
