Page Four CLOUDBUSTER—SPORTS Friday, June 29, 1945 ORD Hawks Beat ’Busters Again In 9-7 Slugf est Crashing out 19 safeties, nine of them for extra bases, the hard hitting ORD Hawks from Greens boro defeated the Cloudbusters in a 9-7 slugfest here last Wednesday. It was the fourth ORD win of the season, and the second in a week, over the Pre-Flight team. The locals were behind after the first pitch of the game, which ORD Second Baseman Grosman slashed to deep right center for the circuit. Before Charles Gehr- des could settle down and retire the side, four more hits had rat tled off Hawk bats to give the visitors a four-run lead that the Cloudbusters never could quite overtake. After trailing all the way, the ’Busters put on a stirring finish and came through with a quartet of runs in the last half of the ninth—just two short of a tie. Pre-Flight batsmen connected for 14 safeties, but they lacked the distance of the ORD extra base clouts. In other away from home games during the past week, the ’Busters lost to the Hawks 10 to 2 at Greensboro, and dropped a 12-10 decision to Pope Field. Six games remain on the Pre- Flight schedule, the next home tilt coming on Wednesday, July 4, against Pope Field. I ESQUIRE.
