WE AI.SO developed a new tire for race cars which i)ermits safe
drivin? at hiu^her speeds, and every major national chami)ionship auto-
iri'hile race in I0;i2 was won on F'irestone tires. For the twenty-ninth

(th(' Pike’s Peak Climb.
Our Coinpany continued to promote interest in the necessity for build-
ir.i; l>etU'r and safer highways. During the year, on many occasions, we
niiti-m'vide attention to the fact that further delay in the c<mstruc-
ti'CUif a(ii'(iiiate. modern highways may cost thousands of lives and billions
of dollars in property damage. Other large companies in the automotive
i.r’il have joiiu'd in this camjiaign and governmental both’es from Congress
crtwn to loc:il levels have begun seriously to consider spt'cific ways and
ntan? of bringing America's system of roads and streets up to date.
V\V Continue to maintain our leadership in the develoimient of long-
i::V. economical, rubber-asphalt surf.ucing materials which have attracted
ir.tt-rest for use on streets, highways, playgrounds and parking area.s.
In 1952 Firestone Industrial Products Division had the largest pro-
duotion and sales volume in its histt>ry. A major <>xpansion proj'ram at the
Fall I;ivt‘r plant was completed for the manufacture of Foamex mattresses.
ThK<e enlarged facilities now make it possible to complete one Foamex
Eittress per minute, and provide for a greater volume of Foamex furniture
ir.d upholstery cushioning. E'lven though jirodnction capacity has been
vTcatly incFfased over last year, demand for Firestone Foamex still ex-
;t-eds the output.
