WEAVING Mrs. Betty Martin, battery hand, and her husband, Everette, and daughter, Becky, spent Sunday in Greenville, S. C., with relatives. Mrs. Audrey Mathis, smash hand, and family spent last week end in Durham visiting relatives. Miss Evelyn Dobbins, daughter of Mrs. Blanch Dobbins, battery hand, and James Dobbins, fixer, has just returned from a trip to Atlanta, Ga. She spent a week with her brother, Jimmy Dobbins, and his wife. Fixer J. C. Ruff and Mrs. Ella Ruff, change hand, spent Sunday at Chimney Rock with relatives. Mrs. Essie Honeycutt, smash hand, celebrated her birthday on Wednsday, June 17, with a picnic at Sparrow Springs lake. The guests attending the picnic were as follows: Mesdames Lucille Davis, Jane Rice, Betty Martin, Vickie Spenoer, Alice Tate, Pearl Chastine, Velma Brooks, Dorothy Wilson, Dorothy Metcalf, Paul’ne Moore, Edna Champion, and Miss Frances Brewer. Mrs. Maggie Parrish, battery hand, is spending her vacation with her daughter, Mrs, John Capps in Bryson City, Mrs. Bertie Grant, battery hand, and her children spent a week with her mother, Mrs. Dovie Wil son in Glennville, N. C. Mrs. Earline Gordon, weaver, has returned to v/ork after two months of illness. Cole Whitaker, loom fixer, was on vacation recently. He spent most of the time at home. Mrs. O. C. Webb, battery hand, has returned to work after several months of illness. MAIN OFFICE The girls of Main Office were hostesses at a delightful party on Friday, June 19, at the Firestone Girls’ Club. The occasion honored Mrs. Helen Craig, Payroll Depart ment. Mrs. Margaret Spencer was in charge of the entertainment, after which a delicious salad plate was served to approximately thirty five guests. Miss Helen Spencer was in charge of planning for the party. Mrs. Marjorie Hill is the new est member of the Payroll De partment. She is married to Clyde W. Hill, an employee of The Gas tonia Daily Gazette. They are the parents of two children, Patsy Jean, six, and Scotty, two. They reside on the York Road. Members of main ofifce welcome Marjorie as a fellow employee. Miss Marguerite Styers, Main Office, Miss Phoebe Pearson, Shop Office, Miss Evelyn Mayfield, lab oratory, and Miss Margaret Read- man spent the week of June 21 to 27 at Daytona Beach, Fla. Miss Helen Spencer, Main Of fice, Mrs. W. M. Spivey of Linwood Road, and Jean Raby vacationed in Renfrew, Pa., during the week of June 28, to July 4. Parhami, Weaving Department, served as councilors for a group of young people from Crowders Creek A, R, P, Church, when they spent a week at their summer assembly grounds near Hendersonville, Joe Finger, helper, spent two weeks of his vacation with his daughter in Columbus, Ohio, Marie Moore, daughter of How ard Moore, lathe operator, is spending several weeks in Orlando, Fla,, with relatives. Mechanic Hoyt' Davis and Elec trician Julius Braswell were among the members of the local unit of the National Guards to spend two weeks at Fort McClel lan, Ala. Mrs. Raymond Mack is working in the Shop Office while Miss Pheobe Pearson is on vacation. Harry B. Heilig, Jr., engineer ing student at State College, is working in the drafting room foi' the summer.
