For the car one can buy from stocks of hundreds of approved and tested accessories. In addition to products there are a number of services offered for the car. These include brake repair and re-lining, washing, lubricating, wheel balanc ing, etc. One very special service offered by all stores and dealers is the fac tory retreading service for such tires as are approved for retread ing. To the car owner who prefers this service rather than the in vestment in new tires a substan tial initial savings is effected. Of course, the buyer knows he will not get as much service from re treads as would normally be ex pected from new tires. » « sf: INSIDE the Firestone Store and Dealer Store, here and elsewhere, a customer can buy any appliance needed in the home. These appli ances, including Firestone refrig erators, electric and gas ranges, etc., can be purchased for as little as- 10 per cent down. For the living room, bedroom, den, etc., there are Firestone tele visions, radios, and combinations. For the sportsman who spends his leisure time out-of-doors there are outboard motors, fishing rods and reels, and camping equipment of various types. The youngsters are remembered at Firestone Stores too. They may look with envy on a wide assort ment of wheel toys, topped by the bigger boys’ favorite, the bicycle. The toy department grows to enormous proportions during the Christmas Season, as would be ex pected. For the man about the house there are lawn mowers both power driven and manually operated. These, plus lawn sprinklers and garden hose, allow Firestone em ployees to keep lawns neat and green with a minimum of physical effort, and in view of their dis count advantage, at a real finan cial savings. The employee who is not ac quainted with the discounts offered Firestone employees may get specific discount information by in quiring at either the Firestone Store or the franchise dealer in Gastonia. Charles Moore, manager of the Company store, or H. Gray- don Horne of the franchise store will welcome your inquiry. They suggest also that in making pur chases, employees identify them selves as such before purchase tickets are made up as it is im possible for clerks to know all Firestone Textiles’ employees per sonally. If this practice were fol lowed consistently, according to Mr. Moore of the Company store, the clerk in making the charge would know to allow a discount. Whereas, if the employee-customer waits until after a ticket is made up to identify himself, it will al ways cause delay while the ticket is discounted, unless the clerk happens to know the employee. Something New On The Farm. . . . Tractor Radio To Entertain Farmers At Work Candid Camera DAVID ADAMS, a lap hanger in Carding, has been an em ployee at this plant 13 years. He started as a sweeper in 1940. As for his present job, hang ing laps, he says simply, “I like it fine”. Mr. Adams, his wife and two daughters, live at 827 South Broad Street. They attend the Unity Zion Methodist Church in Clover, S. C. Fishing is the fami ly pastime. FARMERS now “whistle while they work” to the accompaniment of studio music from their favorite station with a new dustproof, shockproof and waterproof trac tor radio, developed especially for farm tractors by The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company and avail able nationally from P’irestone dealers and stores. Everything from the latest farm produce quotations and weather reports to the play-by-play ac counts of major league pennant races and the world series can be picked up from the seat of the tractor in the field. Every deterrent has been engi neered out and every desirable factor to provide years of fine service has been incorporated into the new radio. Constant field dust, heavy rainfall and the shocks and jolts of tractor operation are no longer hazards to the continuous operation of the new radio. The field dust has been elimi nated by the development of a new fine-wire-mesh grille. The fine flocking of the mesh is dustproof and waterproof to the extent that a water hose played full on the grille opening will not affect the operation of the set. Ventilating louvers have also been designed to eliminate dust and, at the same time, permit the free flow of air. The radio is also fitted with a new cone speaker that is impervious to dampness. if * * TO avoid mechanical shock, the new radio is mounted on four rub ber cushions in a manner similar to the mounting of delicate instru ments in aircraft. Sharp shocks are never transmitted to the deli cate radio mechanism. They are totally absorbed by the rubber in sulators. The radio itself is an eight tube set including the rectifier. It has six watts of audio output (com pared to an average 1 1/2 watt output of car radios) and a new type oval speaker nine inches wide and six inches high. Equipped with a two-position tone control, the new radio easily can be heard over all engine noise. There is also an illuminated dial for night opera tion. The color of the radio is “fii® engine” red to fit into the coloi' adopted by tractor manufacturers- The antenna is a collapsible; self-contained type which extends to a full 70 inches and collapses to the height of the radio. A hinged metal plate covers radio when it is not in use. When activated, the plate folds flush gainst the top of the radio and snaps into a position forming ® tray for small articles. DEVELOPED ESPECIALLY for farmers, whose work take® them far from communications, a tractor radio now is available nationally through Firestone dealers and stores. Easily attached to tractors, the radio is equipped with extra high audio output can be heard over engine noise. Waterproof, dustproof and cushioned against shock. Firestone’s tractor radio keeps farmers in constant touch with weather and market reports, sports event^ and entei" tainment while going about their field duties. 3n jlWemonam | MISS ALEASE GWINN Miss Alease Gwinn, 19 year-old daughter of Laborer Lonnie Gwinn, passed away on June 4.
