Constitution
COPIES of the book, “Your
Rugged Constitution” are being
sent to all employees with the
compliments of the Firestone
News.
With the purpose of showing
“How America’s House of Free
dom is Planned and Built,” the
book explains the meaning and
importance of the words of the
United States Constitution, part by
part.
“You will see how wisely and
well the men at the Constitutional
Convention did their work for the
benefit of all the other Americans
coming after them,” states the in
troduction. “By understanding the
Constitution, you can help to keep
it rugged in all the years ahead.”
The book, which is hoped will be
useful to employees and members
of their families, begins with the
Preamble to the Constitution.
Using historical background, the
text explains how the Constitution
came into being and how the states
were unified.
The Articles and Amendments
of the Constitution are next dis
cussed. They are listed separately
and explained in detail.
In the back of the book there is
an index of Articles, Sections and
Clauses of the Constitution. An
index of subjects in alphabetical
order follows for easy reference.
The book was written by Bruce
and Esther Findley, with illustra
tions by Richard Dawson, and was
published by the Stanford Uni
versity Press as part of its “Amer
ican Ideas Series.”
