Sports Jacket Award Rules 1. Jackets will go to league championship teams. No play off championship winners will be eligible. 2. Members of league champ ionship teams must participate in at least one half of league games to be eligible for award. 3. After participants win jackets, they will not be eligible for another one for three years, but if they are on a league championship team during this period they will be awarded a star for their sweater or jacket. 4. Jackets will be awarded at Annual Sports Banquet. 5. Maximum number of play ers for following activities: Basketball—Girls (12), Men (10), Softball (15), Bowling (7), Boccie (4), Ping Pong (4), Billiard (7), Baseball (15), Shuffleboard (4), Volleyball (8), and Horseshoes (4). High Scorer JIMMY GUFFEY, Gastonia High School senior and summer months employee here, averaged more than 30 points per game during the basketball season just ended. The 18-year-old hard wood sharpshooter is also noted for his ability in softball, volley ball, and baseball, having played on plant teams in each of these sports in addition to basketball. LIFE MAGAZINE for March 15 printed a page of photographs and a short article about V. Mae Greer, who retired on March 1 after 50 years of service for the Company and was honored at a dinner in the Clubhouse that evening. ACCORDING TO RADIO AGE kinescope prints of the NBC-TV “Voice of Firestone” program are being distributed through the Unit ed States Information Service throughout Europe, the Far East and Latin America, the State De partment has announced. The radio version of the program, which cele brated its 25th anniversary on NBC on November 30, has been distributed overseas by the State Department for the past six years. The television version is to form part of a new U. S. I. S. program, “Your TV Concert Hall,” which is being distributed for television showings in foreign countries. Hi ^ IN THE COLUMN, “What I Think,” in the Cleveland, Ohio, News for February 3: “As it has been said many, many times before, the Firestone Hour on television and radio Monday nights is one of the finest musical programs on the air. It has dignity without being stuffy. It has personality without being palsy-walsy. It has depth without being unfathomable. The program also has Howard Barlow as the conductor, plus some of the nation’s best known musical stars as guest soloists each week. The production is nigh onto perfect. Other awards include jackets in Firestone’s scarlet and white colors, being awarded this year for the first time. The crowning award, as always, is the Suprem acy Cup which will be presented by General Superintendent Nelson Kessell to the department having the best over-all record in sports for 1953. Participating in the presenta tion of awards, in addition to Mr. Kessell, will be General Manager Harold Mercer (who will also in troduce the banquet speaker). Su perintendent Francis Galligan, J. K. Lewis, local commissioner of Legion Junior Baseball and former baseball great with the Washing ton Senators, and Recreation Di rector Ralph Johnson. The large number of employees to be honored at the banquet were either members of league winning teams, or were winners in individ ual tournaments during 1953. In some instances they qualify in both catagories. In Service AIRMAN 1st Class W. G. Henson, Jr., son of Plant Engi neer W. G. Henson, has been promoted to staff sergeant in the Air Force according to word received here by his parents. The new sergeant is stationed at Patrick Air Force Base, Cocoa, Fla.
