Hail From 12 States
AWARD of 20 college scholar
ships to sons and daughters of em
ployees of The Firestone Tire &
Rubber Company in 12 states has
been announced by Mr. Harvey S.
Firestone, Jr., Chairman of the
Firestone Company.
The scholarships provide for full
tuition, academic fees, textbooks
and a contribution toward living
costs and are renewable each year
until requirements for an academic
degree are fulfilled, providing
satisfactory scholastic standings
are maintained.
Although only 15 annual Fire
stone Scholarship awards were an
nounced as available when the pro
gram was initiated in 1953, it was
decided upon the recommendation
of the Scholarship Board to award
an additional five scholarships be
cause of the extreme closeness of
the leading applicants, making the
total 20 for this year. Twenty-two
scholarships were awarded last
year to high school and college stu
dents.
Two hundred and sixty-eight

employees, all high school seniors,
