Firestone, Jr., Chairman of the Firestone Company. The scholarships provide for full tuition, academic fees, textbooks and a contribution toward living costs and are renewable each year until requirements for an academic degree are fulfilled, providing satisfactory scholastic standings are maintained. Although only 15 annual Fire stone Scholarship awards were an nounced as available when the pro gram was initiated in 1953, it was decided upon the recommendation of the Scholarship Board to award an additional five scholarships be cause of the extreme closeness of the leading applicants, making the total 20 for this year. Twenty-two scholarships were awarded last year to high school and college stu dents. Two hundred and sixty-eight sons and daughters of Firestone employees, all high school seniors, applied for Firestone Scholarships this year. All applications were carefully reviewed by an impartial group of judges in selecting the best qualified students for the a- wards. Of the winners, five were from from California, two from Iowa, Ohio, three from Pennsylvania, two and one each from Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Washington.
