IN BRIEF SPOOLING Mrs. Mae Smith, spooler tender, and her family visited the former’s daughter, Mrs. Romell Tipton in Robinsville, N. C. Cpl. Homer Newton, son of Mrs. Blanche Newton, starter mak er, has returned to Fort Bragg, N. C., after spending several days at home. Mrs. Leila Wilson, reclaimer, and her husband, Gomer Wilson, spent a week end visiting friends in Ruby Falls, S. C. Mrs. Madge Hembree, warper tender, has been out for the past three weeks due to illness. Mrs. Dorothy Beckham, spooler tender, and her family visited the former’s sister, Mrs. J. W. Adams in Lexington, S. C. Mrs. Aletha Davis, spooler ten der, and her brother, John Dockery, starter maker, visited their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Bass Dockery in Murphy, N. C. Mrs. Neddie Ward, spooler ten der, her family, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cloninger along with their family spent a week end at Camp Firestone. Mrs. Sara Nichols, warper ten der, and her family spent a week end at Myrtle Beach, S. C. Arthur Gunter of Hot Springs, N. C., visited his sister, Mrs. Blanche Newton, starter maker. Mrs. Leila Wilson, reclaimer, and her husband, Gomer Wilson, spent the week end at the summer home of Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Bar nett at River Falls, S. C. Mrs. Donnie Crawford, spooler tender, and her family spent the Labor Day week end at Lake James. Mrs. Inez Davis, spooler tender, and her brother, John Dockery, starter maker, spent the Labor Day week end visiting friends and rela tives in Murphy, N. C. Mrs. Geneva Moody, winder ten der, and her family spent a few days visiting relatives in Bryson City. Pvt. Charles Wiggins of Fort Jackson, S. C., spent the Labor Day week end with his mother, Mrs. Rosalie Burger, starter maker. WINDING Mrs. Vernie Boyd, winder ten der, visited in Raleigh, N. C,, re cently. Mrs. Mable Tindell, winder ten der, and her family spent the Labor Day week end in Loris, S. C. Ralph Deal, sweeper, spent a week end in the mountains going especially for his grandmother’s birthday dinner. SHOP Lathe Operators Marshall Gil bert, Preston Gilbert and Coy Brad shaw visited Oley Gilbert and Mrs. Phyllis Lionella in Baltimore, Md., during the Labor Day week end. Electrician Horace Robinson and Mrs. Robinson entertained Mr. Umstott, engineer from Akron, recently. Miss Helen Spencer, Main Of fice, has been working in the Shop office while Miss Phoebe Pearson is vacationing in Canada. Troy Jones, Shop, visited his daughter and her family in Nor folk, Va., during vacation. Painter Homer Harmon and his family spent their vacation in Western North Carolina mountains. Plant Engineer W. G. Henson and Mrs. Henson entertained at a chicken dinner Engineer Harold Umstott and the following Shop employees: Cramer Little, Hazel Cauthen, Ed Taylor, and Horace Robinson. Lathe Operator Marshall Gil bert, Mrs. Gilbert and their daugh ter spent the week of August 21 at Myrtle Beach, S. C. Sgt. W. G. Henson, Jr., who is stationed at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., spent the Labor Day holidays with his parents, Plant Engineer W. G. Henson and Mrs. Henson. Assistant Plant Engineer H. A. Cauthen and Mrs. Cauthen spent their vacation in Florida. Miss Phoebe Pearson, Shop Of fice, joined friends in Baltimore, Md., on September 11 for a tour of Canada. Mrs. Rosie Francum, tool room clerk, had as guests during the Labor Day holidays, Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Myers of Washington, D. C. School boys who have worked during the summer months and have gone back to school are James Harbin, Clyde Moss, Jr., William Little, Bill Hallowes, Bobby Carl James, Marvin Hudson and Cheves Hammill. MAIN OFFICE NEWS Mrs. Eula Wilson, supervisor of Payroll Department, and her hus band, Clayton Wilson, vacationed at Myrtle Beach, S. C., and Camp Firestone. The main office personnel ex tends a hearty welcome to its new est employee, Walter R. Barnes. Mr. Barnes lives with his parents on Route 3, Gastonia, N. C. Miss Helen Spencer, main office. Misses Beth and Beverly White sides, and Mrs. Archie Whitesides vacationed recently at Daytona Beach, Silver Spi-ings and Talla hassee, Fla. They went especially for the graduation of Bill White sides, son of Mrs. Archie White sides, who received his masters degree in Library Science from Florida State. While at Silver Springs, the group saw Esther Wil liams on location for the motion picture, “Jupiter’s Darling”. MISS LULA MAE NEWTON was married recently to Harlan Cape at the Crowders Creek A.R.P. Church. Miss Newton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Newton of the Crowders Creek section. Employees’ New Homes iliMi iiiiM ■c ROBERT HULL’S new home (top) is located at 1G09 Fairfield Drive in Roland Park. It has six rooms, one and one-half tile baths, screened porch, and large carport. Frame construction is used throughout. The house has a full basement and is heated with natural gas. Mr. Hull is quality control supervisor for the plant. OVERSEER O. K. FORRESTER’S home, recently completed, (middle) is also located in Roland Park at 1723 Fairfield Drive. It’s brick veneer with six rooms and two tile baths. Kitchen and den are panelled in blond limba and floored with cork tile, while wall-to- wall carpeting cover living and dining i*oom floors. Other features include a combination screened and glassed sun porch, and a double garage adjoining at the rear. SAFETY DIRECTOR L. B. McABEE’S home, located at 901 Home Trail, is conveniently close to the plant in the rapidly developing Hillcrest section. It is brick veneer with hardwood floors and plastered walls. The six compactly arranged rooms and single bath are equipped throughout with flush doors. Other features include a screened porch and forced air oil heating. Miss Betty Holbrook, billing clerk, and Miss Sue Van Dyke, Synthetic Division Office spent the week end recently at Myrtle Beach, S. C. Clyde E. Moss, assistant super intendent, vacationed at Nags Head, N. C., recently. PERSONNEL Mrs. Stanley C. Mansfield and her daughter, June, of Massa chusetts spent 10 days with the former’s brother. Time Study En gineer J. M. Cooper and his family. Mrs. Cooper, Jackie and Sandy spent one week at Ocean Island, N. C. Mr. Cooper, Mrs. Mansfield, and June Mansfield joined them for the week end. Jimmy Moss, Time Study De partment; Betty Moss, Main Of fice, and their parents, Mr. and Mrs, B, II. Moss, spent a week end at Camp Firestone. Recreation Director Ralph John son, Mrs. Johnson, and Mr. and Mr.s. ,1. W. Spargo toured the West ern North Carolina mountains re cently. Jimmy Moss, Time Study De partment, left September 9th to enter State College, Raleigh, N, C., to study Industrial Engineering. The employees of Personnel wel come W. R. Turner, .Jr., to Time Study Department who is replac ing Jimmy Moss. 3n inemonam | MRS. JULIA BEAM Mrs. Julia Beam, mother of Yarn Man Jake Beam, died August 14 at her home in Bessemer City, N. C., at the age of 84. Deepest sympathy is extended to the fami ly. MRS. BEUNA VISTA DALTON JACOBS Mrs. Beuna Vista Dalton Jacobs, mother of Shop Employee Oscar Jacobs, died at her home on South Liberty Street, September 12. The Shop employees extend their deep est sympathy to the Jacobs’ family.
