Mrs. W. G. Bennett and son of
Indianapolis, Ind., are visiting her
parents, William Cosey, speeder

Mrs. Wilson Glisson, wife of
Twister Tender Wilson Glisson,
fell on the snow and ice recently
and broke her leg.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sutton were
called to Asheville recently be
cause of the death of Mr. Sutton’s
brother-in-law. Mr. Sutton’s sis
ter, Mrs. Sinclair, returned to Gas
tonia with them.
Mrs. Leola Chamsbers, respooler,
was called to Homer, Ga., because
of the death of her uncle, Bill York.
Joseph Martin, tape man, is a
patient at Garrison General Hos
pital.
Paul Wall of the Marine Base at
Cherry Point, N. C., visited his
wife, Mrs. Doris Wall, respooler,
during a recent week end.
Mrs. Vesta Trammell and Mrs.
Bessie Hardin, respoolers, have re
turned to work after several weeks
of illness.
Deepest sympathy is extended to
Mrs. Pansey Ledford, respooler,
whose father passed away on Jan
uary 9.
Mrs. Vera Carswell, tie-in-hand,
her husband, M. A. Carswell, and
family spent a day in Salisbury,
N. C. recently.

Mrs. Coy Davis of Ohio recently
spent the week end with her sister,
Mrs. Bonnie Fletcher, winder ten

Mrs. Vernie Boyd, winder tender,
fell at home and broke one of her
fingers recently.
Brenda Oakes, daughter of Mrs.
Faye Oakes, winder tender, is un
dergoing treatment at a local hos
pital for a throat infection.

Mr. and Mrs. Luther Thompson
spent the past week in Danville,
Va., visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ander
son Adams, a brother of Mrs.
Thompson. Mr. Thompson is a fork
truck driver on the second shift.
Sam Wilson has returned to
work after several days in the
hospital.
Ollie Wright, father of Alvin
Wright, Opening Room, is a pa
tient at Divine Saviour Hospital
in York, S. C.
Shipping Clerk Harold Robinson
has returned to work after several
days of illness.
W. A. Cloninger is a patient at
Gaston Memorial Hospital. The
employees of this department
send their best wishes for a speedy
recovery.
Will Starnes, a waste house em
ployee, is on vacation. He plans to
visit relatives and friends through
out North and South Carolina.

Clyde Moss, Jr., has returned
to work after completing the first
semester at Wake Forest College.
He will resume his studies in the
fall.

JOHN O. HAYNES
John 0. Haynes, 62, died Satur
day, February 12 at his home, 207
South King Street, following an
illness of one month. Mr. Haynes
was an employee of the Carding
Department for nearly 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs.
Elizabeth Haynes; three daugh
ters, Mrs. Ed Gray of Anchorage,
Alaska, Mrs. J. E. Haney and Mrs.
Hugh McDaniel of Gastonia; three
sisters, Mrs. W. H. Redmond of
Kings Mountain, Mrs, Charles
Caldwell and Mrs. J. L. Hicks,
both of Gastonia; and three bro
thers, Grover and Summie Haynes
of Gastonia, and Mart Haynes of
Kings Mountain.

uary 27. Mr. Hall was 84 years of

'Ideal Athletes To Be Chosen
To determine who will be honored with the title, “Ideal Athletes
of 1954-1955,” an election is being held this week, February 21-26, at
the Men’s Club. Two winners will be selected for the first and third
shifts, and two for the second shift.
In line with tradition, names of those chosen for the honor will be
announced at the annual Sports Banquet April 9,
Explaining the election procedure. Recreation Director Ralph
Johnson pointed out that participation in at least one sports activity
during the year will constitute eligibilty for voting, A voter should
cast his ballot for an individual belonging to his own shift at the
plant. Men will vote for men only; and women for women only.
When names of the winners are revealed at the Sports Banquet, a
sweater will be awarded to each two men and two women receiving the
highest number of votes on the first and third shifts; and to two naen
and two women receiving the highest number of votes on the second
shift.
Ballots may be obtained from a clerk at the Men’s Club,
