Mrs. Ethel McAbee of the Cloth Room was called to Macon, Ga,, Monday, February 21, due to the death of her brother-in-law. The employees of the Cloth Room ex tend their sympathy to the family. SHOP Miss Louise Sparrow, student at Warren Wilson College, spent a week end recently with her par ents, Yardman Frank Sparrow and Mrs. Sparrow. Mrs. Jack Rhyne, Cloth Room, gave a surprise birthday party for her sister, Mrs. Faye Spencer, wife of Electrician Helper Bill Spencer, on Saturday, February 26. Brady Robinson, Jr., son of Benchman Brady Robinson and Mrs. Robinson, has returned to his home after being a patient at Gaston Memorial Hospital. L. Hutts in Swansea, S. C. A number of friends and rela tives honored Mrs. E. J. Hallman on the 87th anniversary of her birth, March 5. A buffet supper highlighted the occasion, at the Robinwood Road home of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. McCarter. Azaleas and red rosebuds were used as decora tion. The honoree is the mother of Mrs. McCarter, whose husband, A. L. McCarter is a millwright in the Shop. SPINNING Mrs. Rosa Laws, spinner, visit ed her two daughters, Betty and Barbara, in Salem, Va., recently. Betty and Barbara are in school in Salem. Mrs. Margaret Truesdale, spin ner, and her husband, John, motor ed to Virginia during a recent week end, sightseeing. HEART FUND AND BOY SCOUTS GET FIRESTONE CONTRIBUTIONS JOHN P. SMITH, Firestone employee, presents a check for $811.25 to Paul Kincaid, chairman of the Greater Gastonia Boy Scout drive. This amount, presented February 24, represents the Firestone employees gift to the Boy Scout drive. DR. LONNIE A. WAGGONER, JR., gets a check for $1,163.80 from Mrs. Edna Harris of Firestone, at the Main Office, February 24. Comptroller Everette J. Mechem, looks on. The money was the employees and company contribution to the Heart Fund for 1955. Mrs. Bruce Mull, daughter of Mrs. Roxie Shultz, spinner, has joined her husband in San Fran cisco, Calif. Mr,. Guffey, mother of Mrs. Maude Johnson, spinner, and Overseer Sam Guffey, visited her brother, Jim Craig who recently underwent surgery, in Bryson City, N. C. A/3C James H. Guffey, son of Mrs. Maude Johnson, spinner, has completed Radio School in Missi ssippi and is now stationed at Fort Bragg, N. C. Mrs. Odell Thomas has returned home from Macon, Ga., where she spent several days with her mother, Mrs. H. G. Hunter, who has been seriously ill. Mrs. Skeet Fletcher, tie-in-hand, visited relatives recently in Mc Call, S. C. Edward L. Hughes of Moncks Corner, S. C., spent a recent week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hughes. Miss Bobbie Chambers of Win- ston-Salem, N. C., and Miss Kath leen Chambers of Raleigh, N. C., spent the week end of March 5 with their parents, Otha Chambers, splicer fixer, and Mrs. Chambers, respooler. Mrs. Annie Donaldson, respool er, has returned to work after sev eral days of illness. George Herron of Asheville, N. C., spent a recent week end with Second Hand Jess Hodge. John D, Nix, doffer, has return ed to work after receiving his dis charge from the armed forces. Mrs. Margaret Robinson, re spooler, has returned to work after being on leave of absence. SPOOLING Mrs. Lucille Fowler, spooler ten der, visited her mother, Mrs. Sally Dempsey in Columbia, S. C., re cently. The employees in the Spooling Department extend their sympathy to Mrs. Bessie Mullinax, winder tender, in the recent death of her five-day old son. Allen Dills, son of Mrs. Estie Dills, spooler tender, entered the United States Navy on February 24. Mrs, Alma Fullbright, mother of Roy Fullbright, oiler, and Mrs. Maggie Reed, spooler tender, has returned to her home after being a patient in the hospital for some time. Mrs. Fullbright’s condition is steadily improving. Mrs. Rosalie Burger, starter maker, and Mrs. Edna Howard, re spooler, along with her family spent a recent week end visiting their brother, Paul Wiggins in Bryson City, N. C. Mr. Wiggins is ill. Little Miss Pamela Meeks, daughter of Edd Meeks, oiler, is showing much improvement after several days of hospitalization. Mrs. Leila Wilson, reclaimer, and husband, Gomer Wilson, Carding Department, visited their daughter, Mrs. G. H. Edwards and family in Greenville, S. C. The employees of this depart ment welcome Earl Buchanan to the Spooling Department as a sweeper. Mrs. Blake Deanhardt, battery hand, had as recent guests, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Crump of An derson, S. C. Mrs. Aline Smith, smash hand, recently visited in Rock Hill, S. C. Mrs. Betty Martin, battery hand, entertained her daughter, Becky, at a birthday party on Saturday, February 19 at the Recreational Hall. Square dancing and refresh ments were enjoyed by 25 guests. Your Reporter Rosevelt Rainey has been re porting news from the Cotton Of fice since the early part of 1955. Rainey, who lives at 430 North York street, will soon com plete 20 years of service here, and most of that time has been spent in the Cotton Office. He came to Gastonia in 1926 from his home town of York, S. C. Hunting and fishing are his favorite pastimes, and on vaca tions has opportunity to go far afield to pursue these sports. Fishing for bass is one of his greater angling interests, although he “rarely catches any bass—more often crappies.” Hunting, he is most interested in ’possums, rab bits, and squirrels. WINDING Mrs. J. B. White of High Point, N. C., visited her mother, Mrs. Corene Lewis, winder tender, re cently. Mrs. Hazel Patterson, winder tender, had as week-end guests re cently, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Mundy of Statesville, N. C. Mrs. Faye Oakes, winder tender, visited in Asheville, N. C., on Sun day, February 27. Mrs. Dorothy Adderholt and H. Earl Hamilton were married De cember 4, in York, S. C. Mr, Ham ilton is a twister tender. Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Lowe of Stanley announce the engagement of their daughter, Mildred Eugene, to Larry Donald Lee, twister ten der.
