vard, N. C., visiting her nephew, Steve Davis, who is a freshman
at Brevard College.

ness.
Ray Clark, creeler, visited his parents in Murphy, N. C. on
a recent week end.
Aileen Brimer, spooler tender, has returned to work.
Allen Dockery, yarn man, has returned to work after being out
for a week due to illness.
Cleo Buchanan, spooler tender, visited her brother, SP 3/c
Franklin D. Davis at Fort Crowder, Mo., when he was injured in an
automobile accident.
MP Norman Welch has returned to West Point, N. Y., after
spending 10 days with his mother, Mrs. Pearl Welch, spooler tender.
Mrs. Glenda Tolbsrl, warper tender, was called to Fort Lee,
Va., recently due to the illness of her mother, Mrs. S. R. Robertson,
who is confined to the Government hospital there.
Mrs. Catherine Neal, warper tender, and children visited her
father, Henry Holland in Greenwood, S. C. recently.
Mrs. Frances Player, winder tender, entertained her daughter,
Lavana, with a birthday dinner on March 10.
Lawrence Price of Clyde, N. C., was a recent visitor with his
son, Norman Price, creeler.
Furman McLeymore, sweeper, visited his grandmother, Mrs.
Belle McLeymore in Murphy, N. C.
Calvin May, yarn man, and his wife spent a recent week end
with his mother, Mrs. Beulah May of Robbinsville, N. C.
Mrs. Janice Tino, spooler tender, and family spent a day not
long ago visiting their son, David, who is a student at Chapel Hill,
N. C. David made the honor roll the last semester.
Mrs. Mildred Hughes and two sons of Chester, S. C. spent a
recent week end with her sister, Mrs. Mae Foster, spooler tender.
New employees in the Spooling Department are Mrs. Katherine
Hicks, spooler tender, Mrs. Evelyn Poteat, spooler tender, and
Charles White, creeler.
Mr. and Mrs. Billy Queen and children of Panama are visiting
Mrs. Maybelle Keisler, respooler, and Leon Keisler, fixer. Mrs.
Queen is the daughter of the Keislers.
Helen Bolick, respooler, has returned to work after a trip to
New Orleans attending the Mardi Gras.
Lester Kinsey, husband of Edna Kinsey, respooler, has returned
home from Moore General Hospital, Swannanoa, N. C.
Harvey Aldridge, twister doffer, celebrated his 60th birthday
on February 13.
Nancy Dixon, student nurse at Spartanburg General Hospital,
Spartanburg, S. C., spent a recent week end visiting her mother,
Ellen Dixon, respooler.
Fredia and Sarah Lankford, daughters of Mary Lankford, re
spooler, received pins for seven years perfect attendance in Sunday
School on March 4 at the Presbyterian Church in Bessemer City,
N. C.
Cpl. Eugene T. Massey called his wife and mother from Japan
recently. Cpl. Massey is stationed with the Armed Forces there in
Japan. He is the son of Mrs. Minnie Massey, winder tender.
Richard Lunsford, husband of Annie Mae Lunsford, oiler, has
returned to his home after being a patient at Garrison General
Hospital.
Mrs. Louise Long, tie-in-hand, is back at work after a stay in
Gaston Memorial with pneumonia.

LAUNCH BOND DRIVE—A dinner meeting at the Firestone
Girls Club launched the 10-day drive for U.S. Savings Bonds sub
scription through payroll savings at the plant. Honored were em
ployees who are volunteer solicitors for the drive which began
March 26 and was concluded April 4. The Bond effort here is part of
a Company-wide drive in the Firestone organization.
At the lime this issue of the plant paper was prepared, 83 per
cent of all employees had enrolled for purchase of Bonds under
Payroll Savings.

Robert Lee Setzer has returned to work after a week of va
cation.
George Jackson has returned to work after a recent illness and
has been transferred from second shift to the first shift.
Lloyd Lewis, cotton weigher, recently attended the funeral of
an uncle in Salisbury, N. C.
K. C. Cauthen. synthetics employee, attended the opening of
the new terminal of Overnite Trucking Company of Charlotte, N. C.
William Rainey, wastehouse employee, is reported doing very
well after a recent operation at Gastonia’s Colored Hospital.
Woodrow Wilson, synthetics employee, had a recent operation
and is showing much improvement.
Ernest Harris, cotton crew, recently spent two weeks of va
cation.
Miss Frances Brewer, battery hand, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Brewer
visited their father, W. D. Brewer who is in the Memorial Hospital
in Royston, Ga.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Costner of Valdese, N. C., visited George
Honeycutt, fixer, and Mrs. Essie Honeycutt, smash hand, recently.
Mr. Costner is a brother of Mrs. Honeycutt.
Mrs. Amanda Rogers, quiller tender, and family visited her
sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Hanna of Chester,
S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Hanna were celebrating their birthdays.
Mrs. Pearl Chastain, battery hand, and family along with her
mother, Mrs. Woods of Salem, S. C., visited Mrs. Chastain’s sister,
Mrs. Odessa Heaton of Walhalla, S. C., Sunday, March 4.
Ray Shields, utility man, and family visited his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. G. M. Shields of Culbertson, N. C., during the week end
of March 10.
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Calhoun had as recent week end guests, Mr.
and Mrs. Swayne Forrester and family of Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. Cal
houn is a tie-in-hand in the Weaving Department and Mr. Cal
houn is a Shop employee.
Mr. and Mrs. Jess Gibbie spent the week of March 10 with
Mr. and Mrs. Willard Adams of Andrews, N. C. Mrs. Gibbie is a
tie-in-hand in this department.
Leonard Tench, creeler, and Mrs. Tench had as recent week end
guests, Harold Tench and James Dodd of Cornelia, Ga.
Mrs. William Baker of Rutherford College, N. C., spent a week
recently with Mrs. Evelyn Jenkins, tie-in-hand.
Meek Capps. Jr. has returned to his home from Gaston Memori
al Hospital where he underwent surgery.
Nina Milton, employee in Weaving and a news reporter, is out
from work due to illness.
Mrs. Lula Pritchett, mother of Oleen Weaver, employee in the
Weaving Department, has returned to her home from the hospital
and wishes to express appreciation to her friends for the flowers,
cards and letters she received while in the hospital.
Ruby McCoig, winder tender, and family moved into their new
home on Roy Street recently.
Mr, and Mrs. Charles Patrick of Shelby, N. C., were recent
guests of Sara Smith, winder tender, and family in Kings Moun
tain, N. C.
Mrs. Dorothy Brackett, winder tender, is a patient at Crowell
Hospital, Lincolnton, N. C., due to a throat infection. Her daughter,
Rebecca Ann Brackett, has recovered from measles.
Ruth Collins of Kings Mountain, has returned to work in this
department on the third shift, as a warper tender.
■New employees in the Winding Department are Edith Whidden,
Iris Enloe, and Eunice Payseur.
William Frady has entered the hospital for observation and
treatment.
The employees of the Winding Department remembered Mrs.
Pat Parks, creeler, with a stork shower recently.
Dorothy Perry had as week end guests recently her brother.

Mrs. W. O. Hicks, winder tender, and her husband visited their
daughter, Mrs. R. T. Heaton in Selma, N. C.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ware visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sims
Ware, and also Mr. and Mrs. Roy Clonts in Murphy, N. C.

attend officers’ training school
in the Air Force. At present he is
assigned to Sheppard Air Force
Base, Texas. A nephew of Nina
Milton, SYC Weaving, he had
his basic military training at
Lackland Air Force Base, San
Antonio, Texas.
A 2/C Edwin O. Broadway,
son of Mrs. I. O. Broadway of
South King street, is flying as a
radio operator with the famed
54th Weather Reconnaissance
Squadron Typhoon Chasers,
with headquarters at Anderson
AFB, on Guam.
He entered military service in
October, 1953. At that time he
was employed at Firestone.
Broadway went to Guam from
Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Miss., in
November 1954. He has flown in
a number of typhoons which
haye swept that . part . of the
Pacific.

Department, has returned to Fort
Bragg after spending a 12-day
leave at home here. While here
he participated in a basketball

March 13. Mr. Chastain is an
electrician and Mrs. Chastain
worked in the Twisting Depart

Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Horne an
nounce the arrival of a daughter
at Garrison Hospital on March
5. Mr. Horne is a doffer in the
Twisting Department.
On March 6 a daughter was
born to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Faile>
at the Garrison General Hos
pital. The father is a cable twist
