Henson Elected To Student Leadership
Main Office
Mozelle Brockman, Louise Ward and Marguerite Styers, Main
Office, attended the North Carolina State Woman’s Missionary
Union Convention at Winston-Salem, N. C. recently. The conven
tion was held at the First Baptist Church there.
Mrs. Eula Wilson, Main Office, and friends, Mrs. Dave Smith,
Mrs. W. C. Jumper and Mrs. Joe Wilson spent a week end visiting
the gardens in Charleston and Orangeburg, S. C.
Bill McSwain, Main Office, attended the Rambling Rebels
Stockholder dinner at the Masonic Temple recently.
Mrs. Meurgie Martin, Main Office, her husband Joe, and her
father, William Cosey, Carding Department, visited relatives in
Greenwood, S. C.
Jimmy Harbin spent the Easter Holidays with his parents,
Mrs. Polly Harbin, Main Office, and J. G. Harbin. Jimmy is a stu
dent at Georgia Military Academy.
Mrs. Julia Beal, Shipping Department, her husband Edwin, and
children, Judy and Ed, visited relatives and friends in Charles
ton, S. C.
Miss Jerry Barton is a new employee in the Payroll Depart
ment. Mrs. Earlene Creasman is our new operator on the switch
board. Mrs. Creasman is married to Lane Creasman and they have
one daughter, Deborah Elaine.
Darrell Gene Lawing is a new employee in Main Office. Mr.
Lawing lives in Maiden, N. C.
Shop
Miss Marie Moore, student at Woman’s College, Greensboro,
N. C., spent the Easter holidays with her parents, Howard Moore,
machinist, and Mrs. Moore.
Miss Irva Smith, student at Gardner-Webb College, spent the
Easter holidays with her parents, David Smith, guard, and Mrs.
Smith.
Mrs. David Smith, wife of David Smith, guard, recently spent
two weeks visiting her son, Ralph Slaughter who is stationed at
the Marine Corps Base in Alcoa, Tenn.
H. A. Cauthen, assistant plant engineer, and Mrs. Cauthen
spent Sunday, April 15, visiting relatives in Lancaster, S. C.
Mrs. Mae Jones, battery hand, and family visited relatives in
Georgia during the Easter week-end.
Carl Stewart, Jr., son of Carl Stewart, weaver, and Mrs.
Stewart, Twisting Department, spent several days in New York
during the Easter holidays. Carl is attending Duke University on a
Firestone scholarship.
Mrs. Lucille Davis, change hand, and family along with Miss
Barbara Schrum of Lincolnton, N. C., visited at High Point College,
High Point, N. C., April 8.
Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Honea attended the funeral of Mr. Honea’s
mother, Mrs. J. H. Honea of West Minster, S. C. Mrs. Honea is
employed in this department.
Mrs. Hassie Honea, spinner, and her daughter, Mrs. Dot Mc
Lain, spent the Easter holidays in Augusta, Ga., with Mrs. Honea’s
son, M/Sgt. Thomas L. Ivey.
Mrs. Minnie Johnson, spinner, entertained her sister, Lucy
Phillips, with a surprise birthday dinner recently. Guests included
Clyde Phillips, Mrs. Phillips, their children, and Mary and Carolyn
Johnson.
Mrs. J. W. Sherrill and daughter are spending a month with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Church.

Henson, plant engineer, and Mrs.
Henson, has been elected presi
dent of the student council at
Charlotte College for the 1956-
1957 school year.
A first-year, pre-engineering
student, Henson works in the
Shop on first shift and attends
school five evenings a week. He
plans to enter the heating and
air conditioning field after com
pleting training at Charlotte
College and N. C. State College.
As president of the Charlotte
College student council, he will
direct all activities of the stu
dent body which numbers ap
proximately 175. The council
functions with a president, vice-
president, secretary, treasurer
and a senior advisor.
Mercers Honored At Reception
Some 200 persons attended a reception at the Girls Club which
honored Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mercer, whose marriage was a recent
event.
Frank W. Davis, Cotton Classing, and Mrs. Davis were hosts at
the reception where a decorative note of delicate pink was ob
served in room and table arrangements.
Besides Mr. and Mrs. Mercer and the latter’s daughter, Miss
Jean Groves, a number of plant employees and their wives officiat
ed in greeting guests, serving refreshments and saying good-byes.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jolly had as recent week-end guests, Mr.
and Mrs. Don Jolly of Charlotte, N. C.
Payton Lewis, Carding Department, entered Garrison General
Hospital for treatment. Mrs. Vesta Lewis, wife of Mr. Lewis, is
employed in Spinning.
Ruth Helms has returned to work after being a patient at
Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Laughridge and children of Rock Hill, S. C.
were recent guests of Mary Laughridge.
Mrs. Estelle Stroup of Stanley, N. C., was the guest of Mary
Laughridge recently.
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Hyleman had as recent guests, Mr. and Mrs.
J. W. Hyleman; Mr. and Mrs. Tommey Hyleman of Clifton, S. C.
Mrs. Charles Pope, daughter-in-law of W. E. Pope and Mrs.
Pope, has been seriously ill and has undergone major surgery. Her
condition is much improved now. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pope make
their home at Stoney Point, New York.
Mrs. Eula Church and her daughter, Betty Sherrill, spent a
recent week end visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Tench in McAdenville,
N. C.
Mr. and Mrs. Will Brown spent a week in Marion, Ind., with
Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Brown and children. Hubert Brown is a
ministerial student at Marion College.
Mrs. E. F. Payne of Kings Mountain, N. C., was a week-end
guest of Mr. and Mrs. Will Brown not long ago.
Mrs. Ellease Austin, respooler, and family spent the Easter
holidays at Cherry Grove Beach, S. C.
Eller Robert, reclaimer, spent a recent week end visiting her
sister, Mrs. Earl Hall in Brevard, N. C.
Mary Dawkins, reclaimer, and family spent two days recently
visiting her sisters, Mrs. A. G. Snipes and Mrs. Tom Burton in
Burlington and Greensboro, N. C.
Mrs. Edna Kinsey, respooler, and her husband spent a week of
vacation visiting relatives in Cornelia, Ga.
Gene Butler, twister doffer, Mrs. Ester Butler, respooler, and
family spent a recent week end at Myrtle Beach, S. C., fishing.
Jean Beaver of Washington, D. C. spent the Easter holiday
with her parents Bob Beaver, twister tender, and Mrs. Beaver of
Dallas, N. C.
Elease Cole, reclaimer, spent the week end of March 17 visiting
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Keenum of Suite, N. C.
Mrs. Maybelle Keisler, respooler, entertained her daughter,
Mrs. Betty Queen with a stork shower recently.
Mabel Mantooth, winder tender, and family recently toured
the mountains of Western North Carolina.
Margaret Hutchins, winder tender, is out from work due to an
illness.
Viola Webb, packer, has returned to work after being out on
leave of absence.
Ruth Cloninger, winder tender, had as guests during a recent
week end, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence McMahan of Furman University,
Greenville, S. C.
Miss Bertha Dettmar, warper tender, recently visited in
Raleigh, N. C.
The employees of the Winding Department remembered Ruby
Hanna, inspector, with a stork shower recently.
Paul Ingle, sweeper, is undergoing treatment in the Charlotte
Memorial Hospital.
William Moody is a new employee in this department.
Mrs. Martha Wood, winder tender, has returned to work
after several weeks of illness.
Mrs. Kate Huffstetler, winder tender, entertained her husband,
Aldine, with a birthday dinner at Rankin Lake recently. There
were 32 guests present for the dinner.
Ralph DeaL yarn man, visited relatives in Waynesville, N. C.
on a recent week end.
